Dr. Reid Bio
Dr. Michelle C. Reid has served as superintendent of Fairfax County Public Schools since July 1, 2022. She is committed to delivering excellence, equity, and opportunity in education for each and every student.
Since Dr. Reid has assumed her role, FCPS has developed and begun implementing the division’s 2023-30 Strategic Plan, created sports programs at every middle school, established a new region to better meet student needs across the division, and worked to enhance and diversify its roster of talented educators. Dr. Reid has created opportunities for community involvement and family engagement across the division through the Family Vision Group.
With a STEM background, Dr. Reid has a proven track record in improving math and science proficiency, but is also a strong believer that success in these subjects does not happen without equally strong literacy skills. With this focus on numeracy and literacy, she has overseen the implementation of, and supported increased teacher planning time for, FCPS’ first new Language Arts curriculum in decades as well as new state math standards.
Prior to FCPS, Dr. Reid focused her career in Washington State, where she was named AASA National Superintendent of the Year in 2021. She has served as superintendent for Northshore and South Kitsap school districts. At Port Angeles School District, she was a high school principal and district athletic director before becoming the deputy superintendent. She has also taught middle school science and high school physics, chemistry, and math.
Dr. Reid received her doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Washington, master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of Washington, and her bachelor’s degree in Natural Science/Chemistry from the University of Puget Sound. She also received a Certificate in Advanced Leadership from Harvard University in 2019.
