Marcy Kneale
Marcy Kneale was named assistant superintendent for the Department of Strategy, Planning and Learning in July 2024, after serving as the department's interim assistant superintendent for a year.
During her time as interim, Kneale supported the School Board’s development and adoption of Executive Limitations to increase organizational transparency; successfully laid the foundation for the new Strategic Plan by delivering five comprehensive Strategic Plan Baseline reports and 13 Executive Limitation reports; and worked collaboratively with school-based and central office leaders to enhance School Innovation & Improvement Plan (SIIP) resources and practices to align with strategic goals.
Kneale has 13 years of school-based and central office leadership in a variety of positions and previously served as the executive director for the Office of the Superintendent. She began her career in FCPS in 2001 and has led several system-wide initiatives including the creation of a virtual program to serve students during the pandemic, expansion of STEM and dual enrollment programming for students, and the division-wide adoption of the national standards for school counseling.
Kneale has co-authored multiple publications, served as an adjunct professor at Johns Hopkins University, and was recognized as the Virginia School Counseling Supervisor of the Year.
Kneale earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from James Madison University, a master’s of education in school counseling from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and her administrative endorsement through the accelerated certification cohort program with the University of Virginia. She completed the Aspiring Superintendents Program with Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and the Strategy Execution certificate program through the Harvard Business School.
