ANNOUNCEMENTS
PTA FALL CLEANUP
On Saturday, October 3rd, Cunningham Park was awarded Wildlife Habitat
status for the Butterfly Garden located directly outside the front of
the school. This is a very prestigious award which comes from the National
Wildlife Federation in Reston, VA. It is earned by providing an environment
that supports native flora and fauna.
In order to achieve Wildlife Habitat status, our school had to provide
a space for birds and insects, such as bees and butterflies,to eat,
drink, nest and raise young. We have done that by adding native plants
and bushes to our Butterfly Garden which provide a food source as well
as a safe place to nest. We provided a safe environment by building
both a butterfly and a bird house. (Made by GREG POMPELLI and painted
by YUMI COYTE.) There is also a water source from a bird bath that was
installed on Saturday.
Achieving this honor has taken the hard work of the BUILDING & GROUNDS
COMMITTEE three years to complete! We are very excited and pleased with
the results! The community at Cunningham Park has also continued to
beautify the grounds by adding mulch, small plants and bushes. A local
Daisy troop and Cadette Troop 2263 will be planting spring-flowering
bulbs within the next few weeks. Local Girl Scout Troop 3521 dedicated
a stepping stone that they made for the garden, as well.
Many, many thanks to the following contributors:
. Merrifield Gardens (they donated mulch and over $600 worth of plants/flowers)
. Lawns Ltd. (Josh Plante - - CPES parent who donated hours of his time
and many of his tools for the Cleanup)
. Sheets Wholesale (David Sheets - donated the cedar posts for both
bird/butterfly houses)
. Ruth Denby (former Vienna resident, whose many lovely plants grace
our school grounds)
. Tyson's Service Corporation (they donated many plants from a current
work site for use on our property)
Make sure that you take a peek at how lovely the grounds look! We couldn't
have done it without all of you!

WELCOME BACK
Welcome (back) to Cunningham Park! The start of another school year means
the start of all the wonderful work your PTA does for the Cunningham Park
community.
We will kick it off with our Community Night/Ice Cream Social on Tuesday,
September 15th, at 7:00 pm. Join us for some frozen treats and learn
about what the PTA has planned for this year. The committee chairs
will be on hand to tell you about their activities and answer questions
as you mingle around the displays. Find out about GRACE Arts, Girls
on the Run, Hallowingo, the Hour Box, Chess Club, After School Drama,
and so much more! We are very proud of our school, its teachers
and staff, and want to continue our support of all of the students in
and out of the classroom.
I want to thank the PTA Executive Committee for all of the effort put
in over the summer getting organized for this year – Kristen Fennel,
Vice President (ascending), Rebecca McNaull, Vice President, Lauri Mennel,
Secretary, and Marnie Sturm, Treasurer. And a special thank you to last
year’s President, Donna Bobalek, for helping us make the transition.
The PTA welcomes all of you to come be a part of what we do – your
help (big or small) will be enormously appreciated! So, watch this
space for updates and we’ll see you on the 15th!
