THANK YOU:
Thank you to our PTSA and all of those parents who donated food, drinks, or funds to treat our teachers to lunch on Monday and desserts on Thursday! Thank you to all who sent a brief note or email to their student’s teachers!

FOURTH QUARTER INTERIMS:
Interims were distributed to students yesterday during Lancer Time. Please review these reports with your student and encourage them to finish the academic year strong!

INTERIOR CAMERAS:
Since our first KIT on Friday the 27th of April, I have received five emails supporting interior cameras and none opposed. For the entire school year to date, I have received thirty emails in favor of interior cameras and three opposed. Our faculty has voted 84-5 in support of interior cameras and our Student Government is in support as well. I will make a final determination as to whether or not the Lee community supports cameras on Friday, June 1st but all indications at this time indicate clear support from our stakeholders. As you know from our emails these past two weeks, we will have a community dialogue meeting Tuesday evening at 6:30, just prior to the PTSA meeting. We are putting out information on the cameras and links to camera information, including a detailed FAQ, via email and on our web site as well and encourage you to pass this information along to others.

Here is the official FCPS department of community outreach statement once more:
Lee High School is considering installing video cameras in some common areas of our school, including our cafeteria, our main lobbies areas, and certain hallway intersections that see the highest traffic.  We invite the feedback of our community on the specifics of this proposed installation and will be holding an informational meeting on Tuesday, May 15th at 6:30, just prior to the PTSA meeting.  If you cannot make the meeting, please visit this link to our web site http://www.fcps.edu/LeeHS for more information, including a detailed FAQ, and respond with an email me at abe.jeffers@fcps.edu with your comments on this proposal and whether you support or oppose the installation.

LATE BUSES:
The last day we will have our Wednesday late buses this year will be May 30th.

CONGRATULATIONS:
Congratulations to junior Shannon Richter for being selected by the state to attend Governor’s School this summer in the area of Math, Science, and Technology; she will spend a month at Lynchburg College.  Shannon was one of approximately 160 students chosen from the whole state to participate in this enrichment program for highly capable students.

SPRING 2012 SOL TESTING:
Students enrolled in courses where there is an end-of-course test will be taking the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) Tests from May 21st – June 8th.  It will be very helpful if you can avoid appointments which may take your child out of school during this time period.  Also, it will help your child perform his or her best if he or she has had a good night’s rest, a healthy breakfast, and comes to school with a positive attitude.  For more information, you may reference a detailed test schedule on the Lee High School website under Academics Testing.  Students have also been given an individual test schedule that lists the location, date, and time for each of their assigned SOL tests.

The Virginia Department of Education requires all students from across the state to take the Standards of Learning (SOL) Tests if they are enrolled in courses where there is an end of course test.  The tests measure the extent to which students have learned the content and skills specified in the Virginia SOLs.  Students enrolled in specific courses will be tested on the following:  English, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, Virginia and United States History, World History I, and World History II.

The purpose of the testing is to provide information about student achievement in several subject areas.  Scores from the tests will be used to determine whether students fail to meet standards, are proficient in meeting the standards, or advanced in the standards.
