Mrs. Kelly Ellis attended the State University of New York at Oswego for her undergraduate degree and received her B.A. in Psychology. While at Oswego she attended Imperial College in London, England where she she spent two semesters going to school and traveling throughout Europe. Mrs. Ellis then went on the Radford University to receive her Master’s degree in Education for School Counseling. Mrs. Ellis spent eight years in the Manassas Park City Schools before joining Fairfax County in 2008. Most recently, Mrs. Ellis was at Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax where she was a school counselor and an assistant swim coach. During her free time Mrs. Ellis enjoys spending time with her husband and chocolate lab, Bruin, and doing outside activities such as running and swimming. Mrs. Ellis enjoys traveling and would love to share stories about her travels as well as hear about her students’ travels.
Mr. Rixse is joining the Marshall counseling staff this year. He was a counselor last year at Edison High School in Alexandria and previously taught chemistry and math for 11 years at Yorktown High School in Arlington. Also, Mr. Rixse worked for 6 years as a litigation attorney at a large DC-based law firm. Mr. Rixse received his B.A. in chemistry from Princeton University, his law degree from the University of Virginia, and his counseling degree from George Mason University. He is a native of Northern Virginia. In his spare time, Mr. Rixse umpires high school and youth league baseball and officiates high school volleyball.
Mrs. Tanya Shuford began her college career at James Madison University, received her B.A. in Psychology from Hampton University, and her Master's degree in Education from University of Maryland. She has been counseling in Fairfax County schools for more than 5 years. To her the best thing about being a guidance counselor is helping to prepare students for life beyond graduation from high school. At Marshall she co-sponsors the College Partnership Program and the African-American Culture Club. In her spare time, Mrs. Shuford enjoys spending time with her family, reading good novels, listening to music and working with her sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
