Welcome to Waynewood
Our mission is to provide for all Waynewood Elementary School students a structured environment where every child is engaged in learning in a responsible and productive way so that each student will be challenged to reach his or her potential, be a life-long learner, and contribute as a caring member of our diverse, changing world.

Our school is located three miles north of Mount Vernon and several miles south of historic Alexandria. When you visit Waynewood, you'll find approximately 610 students enthusiastically learning.

Waynewood Elementary is a "Success by Eight" school. The eight components of this primary grades program are 1) learning community options (multiage, multi-year, single grades), 2) clear standards and benchmarks, 3) school based professional development, -4) team teaching, 5) family/school connections, 6) full day kindergarten, 7) challenging, complex, and connected curriculum, and 8) quality early childhood practices.

We are committed to providing a gifted-quality education for every child in a setting appropriate to his or her needs and realize that this can not be accomplished without staff, students and parents working together to achieve our goals. We believe strongly in this cooperative effort and know that through this cooperation Waynewood will have the best possible learning environment for its children.
