Interview with Mrs. Higgie

Originally from Los Angeles, California, Mrs. Higgie has lived in 5 states and Germany. She has taught for 16 years, and has taught at WOES for 7 of those years. She once even taught in an American school in Germany. Mrs. Higgie has taught grades K-1, 3-8. She likes to teach Social Studies (especially ancient history.)
She runs Multicultural Night, Model UN, and Medieval Day. She loves to watch kids learn through interaction. Speaking of kids, Higgie has 3, ages 23, 21, and 20. Another part of her family includes a dog and a cat. You can find her doing anything outdoors, and she is attempting to summit Mount Whitney this year.

Spring Picnic and Book Swap
Postponed! New date May 20th 5:30 - 8:00

Tons of acitivities are scheduled.....including a bike rodeo, SCA organized kickball game, temporary tattoo station, and food truck. This year will also see the return of the Bood Swap sponsored by the SCA.

Updated information....Book Swap

Students may bring in books Monday, May 16th through Thursday, May 19th for the book swap. They will receive a book buck for each of the first 10 books they bring in to the school. However, there is no limit to the number of book they donate. Book bucks can then be turned in for new books at the swap. It's a great way to get some different books in the house. All book bucks will be distributed on the day of the picnic, May 20th. Questions can be directed to Mr. Rever at


Elementary Institute for the Arts (E-IFTA)

  • 2-week summer enrichment program for students who enjoy the visual and performing arts
  • Students rotate through 8 classes -- 2 in the areas of dance, music, theatre and visual art
  • Open to students currently in grades 3-5
  • Location is Lake Braddock Secondary from July 11-July 22, 2016, 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (M-F)
  • Bus transportation from FCPS high schools is provided as part of the tuition
  • Tuition is $425
