For Students in Grades 2-5

Doreen Rappaport had a life changing experience in 1965, when she taught at a freedom school in McComb, Mississippi.  There she met “extraordinary ordinary” people, many of whom were deprived of their civil rights.  Inspired by their courage, she set out to write about many American heroes, including children, in her historical biography books.

During the program, Rappaport talks about her historical biography books and what inspired her to write them. She explains her approach to research, writing, and revising her work. A roll-in features 3rd grade students using the author’s books Eleanor, Quiet No More and Martin’s Big Words.

We hope you and your students enjoy the program. Please take a moment to complete evaluation form. Your participation in the evaluation process is greatly appreciated.
