Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology Admissions

Eighth grade students who live with their parent or legal guardian who resides full-time in a participating school district (the counties of Fairfax, Arlington, Fauquier, Loudoun, or Prince William or the city of Falls Church) counties of Fairfax, Arlington, Fauquier, Loudoun, or Prince William or the city of Falls Church) AND who are enrolled in Algebra 1 or higher level mathematics in grade 8 are eligible to apply to Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST).  TJHSST offers a comprehensive college preparatory program emphasizing the sciences, mathematics, and technology.  The school serves students who are selected on the basis of aptitude, prior academic achievement, and genuine interest and motivation in the biological, physical, mathematical, and computer sciences and who intend to pursue college preparation in the sciences, engineering, or related fields. Applications will be available from a liaison counselor in all public middle schools and most private schools in the participating districts beginning September 28, 2009.  The application deadline is October 23, 2009.  Submission of the application registers the student to take the admissions test on Saturday, December 5, 2009.

A Student Handbook for test preparation is available for download from the admissions website at www.TJAdmissions.org.  Students without computer access will be able to obtain copies of the handbook from middle schools in all school divisions that participate in TJHSST.

If you are enrolled in any test preparation course, including those offered by Fairfax County Office of Adult and Community Education, you have not applied to TJHSST and you are not registered to take the TJHSST test.  You must complete and submit the Freshman Application to TJHSST by October 23, 2009 in order to register for the test and to be considered for admission.

The initial application, which registers the applicant for the TJHSST admissions test in December, is a one-page form.  Applications will be due no later than October 23, 2009 to the designated middle school counselor or to the TJHSST Admissions Office:

This is a firm deadline to which no exceptions will be made for any reason.  Enrollment in a test preparation class does not constitute application or acceptance to TJHSST.
