November 19: Parents can now create their own account for FCPS 24-7. After registering and having their account validated at one of their children’s schools, parents will have their own username and password to access all of their children's active courses, their high school students’ career and college planning through Family Connection and will be able to update their children’s emergency information through weCare@school. Updating weCare with the correct email address will ensure better communication via Keep in Touch. Details at

November 17: The Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Partners for Safe Teen Driving program is offering a 90-minute evening presentation for parents as part of high school students’ driver education program. This program, which is offered at each Fairfax County high school and is designed for parents of students enrolled in driver education classes, includes video clips, guest speakers, local and state teen crash statistics, and information on driver education—classroom and behind-the-wheel—instruction, the licensing process, insurance concerns, common teen traffic violations, parental roles and responsibilities, and coaching the teen driver.

November 11: Veterans Day will be celebrated in numerous Fairfax County public schools. Here is a sampling of Veterans Day events that will take place today:
- Bonnie Brae Elementary will host a traditional Veterans Day program at 9:15 a.m., featuring the boys’ speaking choir performing a dramatic patriotic reading; the chorus and honors recorder band playing a medley of patriotic songs and choral speeches; and presentation of individual certificates of appreciation to invited members of the military. The program not only pays tribute to service men and women, but also helps students understand and appreciate the concept of freedom and those who work to preserve those freedoms. - A musical salute to veterans will be held at Cardinal Forest Elementary at 7 p.m. First and second grade students will perform a musical tribute to the U. S. armed forces by singing patriotic tunes. Stars—representing parents, neighbors, friends, and relatives who are serving or have served in the military—will decorate the school. - A narrative dramatization of American history will be featured at Flint Hill Elementary’s 24th annual Patriots Day celebration at 9:15 a.m. Students in grades K-6 will be featured in song and dance honoring the country and veterans who have served in the military. The program will allow students to incorporate their social studies curriculum through music to celebrate freedom. November 10: Registration for Winter-Spring 2010 classes offered by Adult and Community Education (ACE) is in full swing. The January-April 2010 term is now open; many November and December 2009 classes are also available and accepting registration. Details
November 9: Fairfax County has just announced three additional community dialogue sessions on the FY 2011 budget due to public demand. More.
Keep in Touch (KIT) Plus has other special topics that you may subscribe to in addition to announcements you may already be receiving from your school. Parents need not subscribe to their child's school in KIT Plus because you already receive messages automatically through KIT Basic. Details.
November 6: Future Quest 2009: A College and Career Forum for Students With Disabilities, will be held Saturday, November 21, beginning at 8 a.m. at George Mason University’s (GMU) Johnson Center. Fairfax County Public Schools, as part of the Northern Virginia Transition Coalition (NVTC)—a nonprofit collaborative partnership of area educational organizations—is co-sponsoring the free event.
November 5: Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is soliciting community feedback on proposed new textbooks and online materials for social studies courses in kindergarten through grade 12 until Monday, November 23.
November 4: Whether you are involved in a court case or simply want to enhance your parenting skills, Family and School Partnerships provides classes to meet your needs.
November 3: Citizens are invited to help school leaders determine the priorities for the next budget year. In partnership with Fairfax County government, FCPS is holding a series of budget community dialogues (PDF document) on six dates throughout the county, and invites all citizens to attend and join in the budget discussions.
November 2: We would like your help to improve the Fairfax County Public Schools web site (www.fcps.edu). October 29: As part of Fairfax County Public Schools' continuing efforts to maintain safe schools, a telephone hot line is available. The Tip Line phone number is 703-658-3636. An online form is also available.
School administrators encourage students and community members to report school safety issues, such as dangerous rumors, drug use, theft, harassment, gang activities, existence of weapons, and vandalism. Tip Line users may identify themselves or remain anonymous, and calls will not be traced.

October 23: Del. Kenneth "Ken" R. Plum will cut the ribbon and welcome the community to the new educational facility bearing his name, kicking off The Plum Center’s official debut as a unique campus in Northern Virginia. An extensive instructor art exhibit will be on view also.
October 22: The Fairfax County Special Education Preschool Program serves children 2 (by September 30th) to 5 years of age who have significant developmental delays in one or more of the following areas: speech, language, fine and/or gross motor, social/emotional, vision and hearing. Children who may be in need of special education preschool services are referred to Child Find for developmental screening and possible referral for additional comprehensive evaluations to determine eligibility for services.
