Updates to the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Web Site
August 27: Virginia’s Standards of Quality require all school divisions to notify the public annually of the availability of the school system’s policies. Fairfax County Public Schools policies are available on this web site at http://www.fcps.edu/Directives/ . A continuous review process ensures ongoing examination and revision of each policy, regulation, and notice as needed.
Any citizen who requests a hard copy of a directive has a right to receive it and should be provided the most current version printed from the web page. The School Board Office, at Gatehouse Administration Center I, maintains the historical records of all directives.
August 26: Fairfax County Public Schools is introducing FCPS eCART (Electronic Curriculum Assessment Resource Tool), a web-based resource that allows teachers to align curriculum, assessment, and instruction to improve student achievement, in its schools for the 2008-09 school year. Details.
August 25: Nationally renowned psychologist Sam Goldstein will speak about Raising Resilient Children: Harnessing the Ordinary Magic of Stress Hardiness, on Wednesday, August 27, at 7 p.m. at Oakton High School. Parents and others interested in children’s healthful development are invited to attend the free presentation, sponsored by the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Office of Student Services. August 22: The Fairfax County Public Library Summer Reading Program is winding down! Last day is August 30.
August 21: Fairfax County Public Schools volunteer coordinators and PTA/PTSA presidents are invited to attend workshops on September 4 or September 23 to receive new and updated information, resources, and support to help enhance their school volunteer programs. The workshops are free and sponsored by Family and School Partnerships of the Department of Communications and Community Outreach. Details are available.

August 19: Parents can now create their own account for FCPS 24-7. After registering and having their account validated at one of their children’s schools, parents will have their own username and password to access all of their children's active courses, their high school students’ career and college planning through Family Connection and will be able to update their children’s emergency information through weCare@school. Updating weCare with the correct email address will ensure better communication via Keep in Touch. Details

August 14:FCPS is collaborating on a research study of FCPS grading policies. A roundtable with college admission officers is planned for Monday, August 25, 1 p.m., at Jackson Middle School. It is open to the public. Submit your questions for the panel. More.
August 13: Prior to reporting to school, every student entering the sixth grade in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) during the 2008-09 school year is required to receive a booster dose of the tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccine if at least five years have passed since the last dose of tetanus toxoid-containing vaccine (DTP, DTaP, DT, or Td) was administered. August 4: Registration is underway for September-December 2008 classes offered by Adult and Community Education (ACE). Course offerings may be viewed at www.fcps.edu/aceclasses, and most classes may be registered for online. The course catalog, ACE Classes, has been mailed to residents and is also available at Fairfax County public libraries and ACE registration centers. Note the special events lined up for fall and mark your calendars accordingly.
