Marty Smith

Marty Smith became the chief of staff in June 2023. He previously served as chief operating officer from 2018-23 and as the chief of staff from 2014-18.
Prior to his appointment as chief of staff in 2014, Smith served as assistant superintendent for Cluster 1 (former organizational structure), where he provided instructional leadership for 22 schools and leadership development for 70 school-based administrators. Previously, he served as Cluster 1 director where he monitored student achievement for all schools in the cluster and had the responsibility for developing and implementing service learning programs for the school district.
Smith has served as principal of Franklin Sherman Elementary School, and as assistant principal of Lane Elementary School and Graham Road Elementary School. He was a Pathways to Leadership administrative intern at Graham Road Elementary School and a classroom teacher at Flint Hill Elementary School.
Smith earned his master's degree in education leadership from George Mason University and a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Iowa.
