High School Academic and Career Plan
Required
Each year, in grades 9-12, students will complete the following required tasks:
- Develop SMART goals and continuously reflect on progress.
- Create or update resume.
- Engage in academic planning with a school counselor.
- Review and/or revise the Game Plan for after high school.
- Work towards completion of at least one of the following Virginia College, Career, and Civic Readiness experiences prior to graduation:
- Credit for an Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), Cambridge, or a dual enrollment course.
- Career and Technical Education (CTE) finisher (earned two or more standard credits for a state-approved sequence in a CTE program) and earning a CTE credential.
- Completion of a Work-Based Learning (WBL) experience.
- Completion of a service learning experience.
- Completion of three JROTC Courses and earning a CTE credential.
Grade 9
In addition to the list above, each 9th grade student will create their resume and include activities and/or accomplishments.
Grade 10
In addition to the list above, each 10th grade student will complete a self-assessment to discover careers that match interests (Naviance Career Interest Profiler).
Grade 11
In addition to the list above, each 11th grade student will explore or register for related post-secondary testing.
Grade 12
In addition to the list above, each 12th grade student will apply to college, apprenticeship, military, work experience, adult services, or other postsecondary experiences in the student’s Game Plan.
Recommended
These activities are recommended for high school students:
- Research, participate in, and document authentic experiences such as service learning and work-based learning.
- Complete and review missed tasks.
