Application for the 2024 Student Representative to the School Board

Each year FCPS students have the opportunity to apply for the position of the student representative to the School Board. The student representative is not a member of the School Board but serves in a nonvoting, advisory capacity, representing the interests of the students of Fairfax County Public Schools. For more information on this role, see FCPS Policy 1802.  The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SAC) student delegates will vote to elect the representative to the School Board.

Eligibility

  • Students who are currently in grades 9, 10, and 11.
  • Be a resident of Fairfax County or Fairfax City
  • Be a student in Fairfax County Public Schools.
Students do not need to be current members of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SAC) to apply.

Application Information and Deadlines

To be considered for the Election, students are required to provide:

  • A written component; due Friday March 22, 2024.
  • A thirty second candidate statement via Flip video; due April 11, 2024.
  • Candidates will be emailed a link to record their video on April 1, 2024.
Both application components are required to be considered for the Election.

2024 Election Information

The 2024 election will consist of two parts:

Primary Election (virtual)

The first part of the Election is a virtual Primary Election held on April 16, 2024 on Zoom. Candidates have the option to attend the Primary Election. Candidates will be notified by email regarding the Primary Election results.

General Election (in person)

Candidates who advanced from the Primary Elections are required to attend the General Election in-person on April 19, 2024 at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology during the school day.

Additional information and details regarding both the Primary and General Elections will be shared with candidates via email.

Steps for Applicants

  1. Review FCPS Policy 1802 and the responsibilities of the student representative to the School Board. 
  2. Submit a Student Representative Application.

    Note: FCPS Google Workspace for Education Account Required
  3. Optional: Attend the virtual Primary Election during the school day.
  4. Candidates who advance beyond the Primary Election are required to attend the in person General Election during the school day.

School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC)

Sophomore Application Process

TJHSST Admissions accepts a very limited number of students for its sophomore class (10th grade) each year.

Advisory Committee for Students with Disabilities (ACSD)

The Advisory Committee for Students with Disabilities (ACSD) is a local advisory committee for special education, appointed by each local school board, shall advise the school board through the division superintendent. This information is for school year 2024-25.
