FCPS Central Offices Provide School Support

The organizational structure of Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is designed to provide schools, teachers and students with needed supports and resources. 

The Superintendent leads the school district and is overseen by the School Board. Leadership positions include the following offices: 

Office of Superintendent

The Office of Superintendent is responsible for FCPS operations.

Office of Chief Academic Officer

The Office of the Chief Academic Officer includes these areas: Office of Assessment and Reporting, Instructional Services Department, and Department of Special Services. The office reports to the Superintendent.

Office of Chief Equity Officer

The Office of the Chief Equity Officer oversees Equity and Cultural Responsiveness, the Hearings Office, Title IX, Student Conduct (SR&R) and Discipline Disproportionality, and the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology Admissions Office. The office reports to the Superintendent.

Office of Chief Experience and Engagement Officer

The Office of the Chief Experience and Engagement Officer includes the following: Office of Communications, Office of Community Relations, Office of Family and School Partnerships, Office of the Ombuds, Student Registration, and Educate Fairfax. The office reports to the Superintendent.

Office of Chief of Facilities Services and Capital Programs

The Office of the Chief of Facilities Services and Capital Programs oversees two areas: Capital Improvements & Planning and Facilities Management. The office reports to the Superintendent.

Office of Chief Financial Officer

The Office of the Chief Financial Officer oversees the following offices: Office of Benefit Services, Office of Budget Services, Office of Comptroller, Office of Payroll Management, and Office of Procurement Services. The office reports to the Superintendent.

Office of Chief Human Resources Officer

The Office of the Chief Human Resources Officer includes the following: Office of Employee Relations, Office of Executive Director, Office of Employee Services and Operations, Office of Labor Relations, and Office of Talent Acquisition. The office reports to the Superintendent.

Office of Chief Information Technology Officer

The Office of the Chief Information Technology Officer provides information technology leadership, products, and services while managing division-wide information resources. The office reports to the Superintendent.

Office of Chief Operating Officer

The Office of the Chief Operating Officer oversees Administrative Services, Food and Nutrition Services, and Transportation Services. The office reports to the Superintendent.

Office of Chief Safety and Security Officer

The Office of Chief Safety and Security Officer provides overall guidance, direction, and support to the safety, health, and security programs. The office reports to the Superintendent.

Office of Chief of Schools

The Office of the Chief of Schools supervises the six region offices and Thomas Jefferson High School, as well as the Department of School Improvement and Supports and the offices of Nontraditional School Programs and Student Activities and Athletics. The office reports to the Superintendent.

Office of Chief of Staff

The Office of the Chief of Staff is responsible for the strategic management of the Superintendent's Office. The office oversees the following areas: Collective Bargaining, Office of Government Relations, and Department of Strategy, Planning and Learning. The office reports to the Superintendent.

Office of Division Counsel

The Office of Division Counsel provides legal advice and legal defense for Fairfax County Public Schools. The office also responds to VFOIA (Virginia Freedom of Information Act) and FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) requests. The office reports to the Superintendent.

Office of Auditor General (OAG)

The Office of Auditor General performs and reviews audit plans and completed audit reports. Readers can call 571-423-1333 to report fraud, waste, and abuse. The office reports to the School Board.

Regions

FCPS is one of the largest school districts in the country. To provided more personalized services, FCPS divides the approximately 200 schools and centers into six regions. The region offices report to the chief of schools

Each region office is headed by an assistant superintendent who is aided by an executive principal(s). The region offices oversee collaboration among schools, instruction, student achievement, school improvement planning, principal selection and evaluation, and communications.
