Community Advisory Committees
Advisory committees designed to engage the broader community
Community Advisory Committees (CAC) at FCPS are made up of community members, parents, students, and other stakeholders who provide input, advice, and recommendations to the School Board on specific issues or topics. Unlike standing committees composed primarily of school board members or district staff, CAC's are designed to engage the broader community in the decision-making process, ensuring that diverse perspectives are considered.
The School Board appoints members to numerous community advisory committees to increase input on specific issues (qualifications for appointment to some committees are mandated by Virginia Code). CACs include citizens from the magisterial districts and one appointed Board member liaison.
Each Board member appoints a citizen to the committee. Community Advisory Cmmittee appointments reflect the religious, cultural, and ethnic diversity of the magisterial districts. The advisory committees meet throughout the year and submit an annual report to the Board. Every July, the Board will develop charges for each citizen advisory committee. Advisory committees' requirements are detailed in Policy 1710.
