Note: This site is intended for Instructional Assistants who need to register for the FCPS Local Assessment to meet the Title I requirement.

What is the FCPS Local Assessment?

The FCPS local assessment offers an alternate option to the ParaPro Assessment.  The local assessment measures an Instructional Assistant's knowledge of academic content and instructional pedagogy through an untimed assessment administered as three subtests: 

  • Reading (20 questions)

  • Writing (20 questions) 

  • Mathematics (30 questions)

A proficiency of 70% or greater on each of the three subtests is required to demonstrate that local highly qualified expectations have been met. 

Who Needs the Local Assessment?

The FCPS job description specifies that an Instructional Assistant (IA) assigned to a Title I school must meet one of the following qualifications:

  • Associate degree; OR

  • Two years of college (48 credit hours); OR

  • Meet a rigorous standard of quality demonstrated through a state or local academic assessment knowledge of, and the ability to assist with, reading, writing, and mathematics instruction.

 

Scheduling Your Title I Instructional Assistant Assessment

  • The FCPS Highly Qualified (HQ) Local Assessment is administered at the FCPS Gatehouse Administration Center.  

Local Assessment Study Guides

The FCPS local assessment has been found to be comparable to the Educational Testing Service (ETS) ParaPro assessment in terms of question and content, and difficulty, as determined by FCPS Instructional Services (ISD) and Special Services (DSS) content specialists.

To ensure your success, a quiet and comfortable testing area will be secured.
