Education for Employment (EFE) - (Career and Transition Services)
Education for Employment (EFE) is a course for high school students with disabilities that develops employability and job-seeking skills and empowers students to become self-advocates.
The Education for Employment (EFE) course is a career skills course for students with disabilities. This class is available to students in grades 9, 10, 11, and 12.
The EFE course is available in most high schools in FCPS.
This course teaches students to make good career and education choices as they:
- Move from school to work
- Gain technical skills
- Adapt to the workplace
Students learn about:
- Ethical behaviors
- Career-research
- Job-acquisition
- Workplace communication
- Self-awareness
- Self-advocacy
- Customer-service
Skill Development
Students will:
- Have the opportunity to prepare for competitive employment.
- Gain the skills needed for exploring, preparing for, and entering the world of work.
- Explore career interests and career fields.
- Learn work-related skills, and how to communicate with peers and adults.
- Focus on personal strengths and abilities, and address personal areas of need.
- Develop career goals, prepare for future career education, on-the-job training, and competitive employment.
- Receive transition support related to career training, employment, or other postsecondary endeavors.
- Develop self-awareness and self-advocacy with making choices, problem solving, and goal setting.
- Learn about self-advocacy and understand their IEP.
- Develop and practice the twenty-two (22) Virginia Workplace Readiness Skills.
