Families Feel More Welcome at FCPS Schools: Results of 2023-24 Family Engagement Survey Offer Positive Feedback
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) posted the results of its second Family Engagement Survey.
The survey was conducted during the 2023-24 school year to measure the division’s current success with family engagement. It will also help us deepen that engagement and continue building trust while empowering families to support their children’s success.
Key results from the more than 26,000 parents and caretakers who responded to the survey include:
- 94% responded that they feel school attendance supports their child’s academic success.
- 92% feel welcome at my child’s school, an increase from 89% in the 2021-22 survey.
- 92% feel their school welcomes families of different backgrounds and cultures, an increase of 2% from 2021-22.
- 89% believe that there is at least one caring adult at the school their child trusts.
- 89% feel their child enjoys going to school.
The survey was open from March 3 - April 3 and was available in 10 languages. All families with students in pre-K through 12th grade were invited to participate.
Survey Topics
In the survey, families in FCPS were asked to provide their feedback on their engagement at their child’s school to address the following topics:
- Welcoming environment
- Communication
- Student Success
- Advocacy
- Family and School Partnerships
- Collaboration With the Community
The feedback provided will help FCPS strengthen family engagement and continue to foster a Caring Culture throughout FCPS.
Outcomes
One outcome of the Family Engagement Survey is the creation of the FCPS Family Academy — a comprehensive strategy to provide families with exceptional access, opportunities, and intentional collaboration.
The goal of the Family Academy is to ensure the continued success and well-being of each and every student within the FCPS community. The Academy will create a variety of positive and engaging experiences and meaningful connections for families. These experiences will aim to transform the FCPS experience into a welcoming environment for all families.
These goals are in alignment with FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan Pillar B: Vibrant Home School & Community Partnerships. Pillar B reminds FCPS to empower families through trusting partnerships that sustain a safe, inclusive culture for learning.
