FCPS Students Selected for 2023 All-Virginia Jazz Band, VMEA Senior Honors Choir, and All-Virginia Elementary Orff Ensemble

Forty-six students representing 16 Fairfax County high schools have been selected for the 2023 All-Virginia Jazz Band and the 2023 VMEA Senior Honors Choir. The students will rehearse and perform with other premier musicians from across the state beginning Tuesday, November 14, through Saturday, November 18. The performances are free and open to the public. 

Students throughout Virginia went through a rigorous audition process to audition for positions within these ensembles. Participants will rehearse with nationally recognized conductors and collaborate with fellow musicians during the event.

The concerts will be held in the Richmond Convention Center Thursday, November 16, (All-Virginia Jazz Band) beginning at noon and ending at 1:30 p.m., and Saturday, November 18, (Senior Honors Choir) beginning at 1 p.m. and ending at 2 p.m.

Please Note: Additional students may be called in to participate next week that are not listed and will be added by the Virginia Music Educators Association. Alternates are not listed in the above list.

In addition, seven students representing two Fairfax County elementary schools have been selected for the 2023 All-Virginia Elementary Orff Ensemble. The students will rehearse and perform with other premier musicians from across the state from eleven participating elementary schools. The performance is free and open to the public. 

The program is based on the book Ben’s Trumpet by Rachel Isadora. The music is composed and conducted by Dr. Patrick Ware. The concert will be held in the Richmond Convention Center on Wednesday, November 16, at 11:30 a.m. on the first floor.
