Spring Professional Development Opportunities
The FCPS/GMU iLEAD team is excited to host the first ever Learning to Improve Conference at George Mason University on Saturday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to noon. Participants will learn from practitioners who have used the methods and tools of improvement science to address problems of practice that aim to redress inequities and improve educational outcomes for students in the following areas:
- Access and opportunities in math, literacy, and college access programs
- Achievement in math and literacy
- Student discipline and attendance processes
- Parent and community engagement
- Central office programs, projects, and systems

Instructional Coach Learning Cohort Opportunity: Apply Now
Applications are being accepted for the 2023 Instructional Coach Learning Cohort. Teacher leaders interested in becoming an Instructional Coach for the 2024-25 school year should apply.
The Instructional Coach Learning Cohort is designed to prepare a diverse group of candidates for the role of an instructional coach through the course content; experiences leading in their schools; asynchronous learning and reflection; and observations, coaching, and feedback. There are a total of nine synchronous sessions; seven sessions will be held in person, two will be held virtually.

George Mason University Education Leadership Program
Are you a school leader? Are you wondering if administration is right for you? The George Mason University Education Leadership Program offers several program options to fit the needs of full-time working educators interested in advancing their careers by earning a master’s degree or graduate certificate in Education Leadership.
A new cohort for FCPS educators will be starting in Fall 2023. Applications are being accepted now. Learn more about this regional cohort option, as well as our campus hybrid and fully online program options, by attending an upcoming virtual information session hosted by Dr. Shahrokhi, division director, Education Leadership and Policy.

UVA Administration & Supervision M.Ed. Information Session
The University of Virginia’s Administration & Supervision program is seeking applicants in FCPS who would like to join the ranks of the next generation of educational leaders in Virginia. Great Beginnings Coach Pool
The Office of Professional Learning and Equity is excited to announce the official opening of the Great Beginnings Coach Pool. Great Beginnings Coaches lead the professional development cohorts for teachers new to Fairfax County. Coaches receive professional development, a stipend, and recertification points. Teacher leaders with the following qualifications are encouraged to consider applying:
- A minimum of five years of highly successful teaching, at least three within FCPS,
- Highly effective communication and human relations skills,
- A desire to support novice and experienced new-to-FCPS teachers,
- A passion for collaboration and teamwork, and
- A commitment to cultural responsiveness and equitable outcomes for all students.
Additional information about being a Great Beginnings Coach can be found on this flier shared in January. Applicants must be available July 31 to August 10.
Interested applicants should complete this application form and request an administrator recommendation. Please submit your application and administrator recommendation by Friday, March 24. We will begin interviewing potential coaches during the week of April 10.
Select applicants will be invited to participate in a virtual panel interview. After interviewing, select candidates will host a classroom observation. After observations, select candidates will be placed in a pool from which our coach selections for SY23-24 will be made. Selected candidates not placed in coaching roles in SY23-24 will have other opportunities to lead professional development and will remain in the pool for SY24-25. Teacher Leadership Opportunity to Develop Division Instructional Resources
Instructional Services and Special Services are seeking resource developers and curriculum writers with diverse perspectives and lived experiences to support the development of instructional resources for the 2023-24 school year.
