We’re glad you asked! Below, you will find helpful information to set you up for success!

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I do to prepare for my virtual appointment?

There are several steps that can ensure a smooth virtual appointment. Please consider the following before your appointment begins:

  • Ensure that you’ve granted permission to use your video and microphone to Zoom.
  • Please make sure the name displayed is your first and last name. This will ensure that you are admitted to the appointment.

  • Have the original documents available, including:

From the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Acceptable Documents website, you may choose to provide either:

  • One (1) Document:  List A  OR Two (2) Documents: One (1) from List B and One (1) from List C
  • Negative Tuberculosis (TB) screening or test results from within the last 12 months that is signed by a practicing U.S. physician or nurse

**Failure to upload copies of your I-9 document(s) or have original documentation during the meeting will result in needing to reschedule your appointment.

How do I access my virtual appointment?

  • Please refer back to the scheduling email that was sent upon scheduling your virtual appointment. The email was sent with the title “Scheduling and accessing Virtual Verification Appointment.”

What can I expect when I log on to the virtual appointment?

Below are the following steps you will go through during your virtual appointment:

  • Enter the Lobby/Waiting Room
    • You will be placed in a “lobby/waiting room” until your appointment begins. You will be admitted into the room once the FCPS staff member is ready to begin your appointment.
      • Having the correct name displayed will allow the FCPS staff member to confirm your appointment and grant you access to the virtual Zoom room.
      • Failure to arrive within the first 5-minutes of your scheduled appointment will result in the need to reschedule your virtual appointment.
  • Admittance to Appointment
    • You will be greeted by an FCPS staff member who will begin the identity verification process.
  • Verification of I-9 Documents
    • The staff member will compare the original documents you presented during the appointment with those you uploaded to ensure we maintain accurate records as required by the U.S. Customs and Immigration Services.
  • Verification of Negative Tuberculosis (TB) Test/Screening Results
    • The staff member will verify that a negative result from within the last 12 months has been signed by a practicing U.S. physician or nurse and will enter the test date into our records system.
  • Review and Verify the Virginia Department of Social Services Child Abuse & Neglect Background Check Document
    • Please be logged into the Onboard platform so that you can make necessary corrections to ensure smooth processing by the state.
  • Completion of E-Verify
    • The staff member will verify identification and employment eligibility through the E-Verify system.
  • Verify Residency for the Past 5-Years
    • The Code of Virginia requires Child Abuse and Neglect background checks to be completed in each state the individual has resided in within the last five years. If the staff member confirms residency in a state other than Virginia within the last five years, a team member will follow up with you shortly to provide additional documentation that will need to be completed.
  • Verification and Approval of Uploaded Photo for ID Badge
    • A staff member will ensure that the photo uploaded is, in fact, of the individual participating in the appointment and that it meets our requirements. If the photo does not meet the requirements, the staff member will assist in retaking a photo that will be uploaded and used for your photo ID badge.
  • Confirmation of Scheduled Fingerprint Appointment
    • The staff member will confirm that you have scheduled your appointment to be fingerprinted or have already completed your fingerprinting appointment.
  • Next Steps and Appointment Conclusion
    • The staff member will review next steps and let you know that as soon as they receive an update on the criminal background check, you will receive an email letting you know if/when you are eligible to report to your job.
    • A brief questionnaire will be included on the final page of Phase 3 in Onboard. Your input is greatly appreciated as we seek to enhance the remote onboarding process.
    • Additionally, if you are a contracted employee, Phase 4 will open in Onboard, allowing you to select benefits.
