News: The July 11, 2019 Regular meeting of the School Board opened with a performance of the National Anthem by Juliette Darmofalski a 2019 graduate of Herndon High School. The Board recognized Tessie Wilson and Andrew Yamada for their service to the FCPS Foundation Board of Directors. The Board also recognized the South County High School Girls Softball Team, the 6A State Champs!
Auditor General, Esther Ko, presented the FY20 Audit Plan and Assistant Superintendent of Financial Services, Leigh Burden, presented the FY19 year end budget review.
The Board approved Regulation 2601, Student Rights and Responsibilities as amended.
The next School Board Meeting is scheduled for July 25, 7 p.m. at Jackson Middle School.
News: The July 25, 2019 Regular School Board meeting opened with a performance of the National Anthem by the Institute for the Arts Orchestra under the direction of Aaron Mynes. The new Assistant Superintendent of Region 3, Dr. Nardos King was introduced and the Board recognized the Langley High School Girl's Lacrosse team Class 6A State Championship.
The Board approved the SY2020-21 standard school year calendar as well as the amended FY19 Year end Budget. A follow on motion to the SR&R was also amended and approved. Board members approved committee liaisons, assignments and charges.
The next School Board meeting will be September 12, 2019, 7 p.m., in the auditorium of Luther Jackson Middle School.

The September 12, 2019, regular meeting of the School Board opened with a performance of the National Anthem by the Sandburg Choralettes, under the direction of Sara Martin.
The Division Superintendent Dr. Scott Brabrand recognized the outstanding achievements of schools throughout our division receiving the Governor’s Performance and Exemplar Performance School Awards.
The Board recognized Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology as the 2019 FIRST Tech Challenge World Champions.
The Board honored Waynewood Elementary School on their 60th Anniversary.
The Board also recognized Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, and National Voter Registration Month.
The next regular business meeting of the School Board will be on Thursday, September 26, 2019.

The September 26, 2019, regular meeting of the School Board opened with a performance of the National Anthem by the Falls Church High School Jaguar Marching Band under the direction of Steve Jacoby.
The School Board honored and acknowledged the Michael I. Marshall Fund for Music Education.
The Board honored Kevin Reynolds, retiring member of the FCPS Foundation, who has served on the board of directors since 2010.
The Board also recognized Dyslexia Awareness Month.
The Division Superintendent Dr. Scott Brabrand presented the 2019 Opening of Schools Report.

The October 24, 2019, regular meeting of the School Board opened with a performance of the National Anthem by the Lake Braddock Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Clayton Allen.
The School Board honored Falls Church High School as they celebrated their 75th Anniversary.
The Board recognized Native American Heritage Month, National Career Development Month, and National Red Ribbon Week.
The Board also recognized many schools for receiving the FCPS Excellence in Equity School Awards.
The Assistant Superintendent of Special Services Teresa Johnson presented the Strategic Plan Goal 2: Caring Culture Report.
The School Board adopted the 2020 Fairfax County School Board State and Federal Legislative Program.
The next regular business meeting of the School Board will be on Thursday, November 7, 2019.

The November 7, 2019, regular meeting of the School Board opened with a performance of the National Anthem by the Annandale High School Singers under the direction of Pat Vaughn.
The School Board recognized the McLean High School Journalism students for earning Trophy Class rankings, the top honors bestowed by the VHSL’s Publication Evaluation Services.
The Board also recognized American Education Week, Geography Awareness Week , and Veterans Day.
The Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services Dr. Sloan Presidio presented the Strategic Plan Goal 1: Student Success Report.
The School Board approved the Strategic Plan Goal 4: Resource Stewardship FY19 Report.
The next regular business meeting of the School Board will be on Monday, November 18, 2019.
The CIP Public Hearing has been rescheduled to January 27, 2020, 5:30 p.m. in the auditorium at Luther Jackson Middle School.
