Many of our amazing FCPS staff were involved in helping ITZArt4you get their feet off the ground (read more about the program). Ella and Emma approached their former strings teacher—Robert Salzberg, the elementary string specialist at Navy Elementary School— for help. Teaming up with Emma’s current strings teacher, Devyn Wilcox-Grimes, the director of orchestras at Rachel Carson Middle School, they created the strings curriculum and trained the strings mentors. The girls recruited Judy Sohn, an art teacher at Frost Middle School, to create a curriculum and train the art mentors for the art sessions. The strings teachers at Dogwood Elementary School, Joycelynne Jimenez-Rodriguez and Andrew Juola, have been instrumental in recruiting and identifying students who would benefit the most from the program.

Many FCPS educators work to inspire our students to be mentors to others. Have you mentored students? Tell us about it below!
