Community Review of Social Studies Basal Resources

Learn more about the Social Studies Basal Resources being reviewed for adoption for the 2025-26 School Year.

Fairfax County Public Schools is adopting Social Studies Basal Resources for the 2025-26 school year. Basal resources are the primary resources used to support instruction in a given subject.

Public review of the instructional materials under consideration is part of the process for selecting new resources.

All community feedback will be shared with School Board members before a vote at the School Board’s regular meeting in Spring 2025.

Note: Only comments regarding the evaluation of the instructional materials (not any additional resources or materials) will be considered from the survey and comment sheet.

FCPS adopts basal resources in accordance with the process outlined in Regulation 3004

Timeline

  • October 2024: Social studies basal instructional materials being considered may be accessed for public review and comment.
    • Materials will be available online and in person.
       

      This page will be updated with a comment form and resources in September 2024.

  • Spring 2025: Staff will make a recommendation to the School Board.
  • Fall 2025: The adopted basal resources will be implemented for School Year 2025-26.

  • All physical texts will be available for review at Pimmit Hills Center, Room 207, 7510 Lisle Avenue, Falls Church, VA 22043
    • Free parking is available.
    • Enter the building through door 4. Ask about the Social Studies instructional resources at the main office reception desk.
  • Dates: October 2024
  • Times:
    • Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Saturday Hours:
    • Saturday, October 12, 2024
    • 8 to 11 a.m.
  • You will be asked to use your phone to scan a QR code.
    • The QR code will take you to the feedback form.
    • You will enter comments on the materials you review.
