FCPS CARES of the Month Recipients
Central Office
Joash Chung, Willow Oaks Admin Center
"Working with the High Impact Tutoring Team under the direction of Joash Chung, I consider myself lucky. Through many changes and adjustments, Joash Chung’s leadership has allowed us to continue, adjust and grow to where we have placed over 300 tutors with a very limited staff. The stresses of managing a program which has grown exponentially in size and budget without growing in staff, are profound. Joash has done this, and has demonstrated the ability to delegate, support and problem solve. His ability to facilitate meetings, build community, make connections, and reinvent systems of operation make working with OSS a true pleasure. After retiring from 28 years in FCPS including experience in administration and central office, I remain in awe of how Joash has handled so many challenges recently. As a leader, Joash is always able to reflect, advise and keep his eye on the prize of helping boost student achievement and skills. It is about the kids and he can pose goals to our team, share updates, accommodate the team’s needs and still remind us of the focus to maximize the impact by ensuring the students are served, the tutors are top notch, the schools understand and the data is collected (all while ensuring the most fiscally responsible use of the funding). I just wanted to share that he is an impressive leader that manages in a highly effective manner and maintains an even, professional and supportive demeanor through all the program changes and growth."

Joycelynne Jimenez- Rodriguez, Hughes MS
"Joycelynne continuously goes above and beyond for her students, colleagues, and school community. Last Wednesday she spent her evening taking a school bus full of students to see their ItzArt student leaders perform at the Kennedy Center, and this was after spending a full day of teaching at two schools. A couple years ago she was approached by a group of FCPS students she did not know from another school wanting help in organizing and creating an after-school program where student mentors tutor students at Dogwood ES in the fine and performing arts. Without hesitation Joycelynne hopped on board with this initiative and spends her Tuesday afternoons assisting the students in their now established weekly mentoring program. Earlier this year, I went to her seeking help in creating a South Lakes orchestra pyramid event, and again without any hesitation, she and her students showed up on a Saturday to put on an awesome Panther Orchestra Day for our elementary students. This is only a small glimpse of all that Joycelynne contributes to her school community - we are so grateful for her and the positive impact she makes everyday."

Wilson Harvey, Justice HS (Pictured, along Kirsten Salonga - FCPS CARES March 2024 Recipient of the Month) - View the celebration!
"Wilson Harvey is an amazing human. As a counselor at Justice High School (and enthusiastic commentator for our basketball games), he goes above and beyond every single day for our students. As deeply as I appreciate these aspects of him (SO MUCH!), it’s actually not why I’m writing today. I’m writing because Mr. Harvey does “High-Five Fridays.” These are THE BEST and must be shared. Every Friday, Mr. Harvey is outside the school’s front entrance, equipped with a “High-Five Friday” whiteboard and a boombox blasting a wide variety of music. Queen. Country. Current Top 40. Disco. You name it; he’s got it. Most Fridays, he’s also decked out in fun attire (e.g., a superhero with a cape, a dinosaur, Bob Ross, different incarnations of Santa Claus, our Justice Wolf mascot (complete with the big Wolf head), spirit-week themes, all four classes’ homecoming themes, etc.). He welcomes students, teachers, and staff for close to 45 minutes, regardless of the weather. Rain? He’s out there. Cold? He’s out there, offering a huge high-five (often with a foam stadium-hand) and a smile. EVERY. SINGLE. WEEK. If Friday is a student holiday or a full-blown holiday, he has High-Five Thursday. THE MAN IS AMAZING. Kids notice this. Teachers notice this. EVERYONE notices this. This is Mr. Harvey’s first year at Justice, but you would think he had been here a decade. His High-Five Fridays boost the mood in the school and they make my week, so much so that last Friday when I got to school (a little earlier than usual) and I didn’t see him, I was worried. Five minutes later, though, he emerged, and all was right with the world. Bravo, Mr. Harvey. Bravo."

Debra Schuman, Mount Eagle ES
"A 4th grader sent me a letter asking if we could get a school mascot. We have a great one called the LEARN Eagle designed by a local artist. Debbie went out of her way to work with the student and connect with other schools to see if she could figure something out. She ended up borrowing an eagle costume from another school and adding to it to make it look like our LEARN eagle. The student was beside himself with excitement. He wore it to our weekly All School Meeting and shared with the whole school what inspired him. Thanks to Debbie and her persistence, this student has a memory that he will never forget."

Amanda Alsbaugh, Oak View ES
"In this time of teacher shortages, especially a special education teacher shortage, it is so important to acknowledge those who go above and beyond, exceeding expectations every day. Oak View is so fortunate to call Amanda Alsbaugh our special education team leader. Fairfax County acknowledged the need for every elementary school to have a specific lead position to navigate the intricate needs of special education. Due to the demands of this position, the special education lead teacher no longer delivers direct instruction or manages a case load. This year, however, we found that our newest kindergarten learners had a unique set of behavioral and learning needs that required a teacher with a specific skill set to help them access their education. In addition to her role as special education team leader, Amanda was willing to carve out time in her busy schedule to spend two-thirds of her day in a self-contained classroom to help these students acclimate to the school learning environment. Each day she is in this classroom utilizing her amazing skills and experiences to help these students succeed. Amanda also finds time in her schedule to mentor four new special education teachers, teach specially designed reading groups, administer educational testing, and schedule local screening meetings. She communicates with families and treats them as partners. She makes sure all her paperwork and deadlines are met. She has established collaborative relationships with the Office of Special Education Instruction and Due Process and Eligibility. Amanda still finds time to serve our school community as a whole. She is a member of our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support team and ensures that all students receive the intervention necessary to help them access learning. She even devotes time to our student leaders by sponsoring our patrols. And if that is not enough, Ms. Alsbaugh is willing to stay and support evening events. Just last night, she stayed for our math and literacy night, and led literacy activities with our students and parents. Amanda’s timeliness and her tireless efforts have made a huge impact on our students and our school staff. She is an unbelievable support to all, and Oak View is thankful that she chooses to be an integral part of our community. Amanda, we are in awe of you and so grateful for all you do!"

Emma Miller, Woodson HS - View the celebration!
"Ms. Miller was driving to work on Monday morning when she noticed a young adult on the side of the road who just happened to go through a medical emergency. She pulled over, not knowing who it was to help, and then realized it was a Woodson student. She stayed with the student the entire time and even rode in the ambulance with them to be transported to the nearby hospital. We appreciate her kindness to her specific classroom students and her support for every student at Woodson. Thank you, Emma!"

"Building Supervisor Guery Cespedes and his staff supported our Instructional Job Fair held at Lewis HS on February 3, 2024. Our office needed additional custodial support for set up the evening before the job fair and when we contacted Guery and his staff they didn’t hesitate to respond to our need. They arranged additional custodian coverage the evening before the event and provided support during the event. This support was a great addition to custodial staff of Lewis HS. The custodians started set up after a basketball game and stayed until they finished setting up. Your collaboration allowed us to host a successful job fair. Thank you for your dedication to FCPS!"

"Ms. Daynes has had a greatly positive impact on the Robinson Theatre Company in her first year. She challenges the students which in turn helps them create high-quality productions. We really appreciate a recent time when Ms. Daynes reached out to de-conflict a possible overlapping commitment our student had. Ms. Daynes’ concern for our daughter’s well-being and her willingness to provide flexible options showed us how much she cares. Her care and support mean so much to us. Thank you!!!

Karin Markley, Cunningham Park ES
"My son, a neurodiverse student in the first grade at CPES, was struggling to make it to a certain level in Lexia. After weeks of working on this he made it and while it was something that could have easily been viewed as a check the box and to move on, Karin Markley celebrated his success along with a surprise visit from the principal herself to congratulate him. This small act of kindness boosted my son’s confidence and spirits tenfold. Karin demonstrates an unwavering commitment to her students with empathy, kindness, and compassion."

Kim Mann, Baileys Upper ES
"Bailey’s Upper ES is lucky to have Ms. Mann as one of our teachers. When she’s not teaching drama to our students, she is supporting students and colleagues throughout the building. She runs our Bailey’s Upper News Network show daily, she works with our 5th graders who are a part of our Bailey’s Upper Arts Ensemble, she supported our PTA recently with the Arts reflection, and is putting on a variety show with our students. These are just a few of the things she does and has done to support our building. Additionally, Ms. Mann took the time to become Orton-Ghillingham (OG) trained and during her planning time she pulls intervention groups to support students with their reading. Recently, I have noticed Ms. Mann supporting our long-term music sub with some of her classes, again giving up her own planning time. We appreciate Ms. Mann and her positive attitude, flexibility, and problem-solving skills. We are fortunate to have her as part of the Bailey’s Upper ES community!"

Mike Baber, Lorton Transportation Center
"Field trips are an invaluable enrichment experience for all students, but especially for Bryant HS students, many of whom have responsibilities outside of school that limit their ability to explore. Mike Baber is innovative and meets challenges head on, his level of commitment to scheduling hundreds of field trips though out the year is outstanding. Mike always exceeds all expectations, especially with the shortage of school bus drivers. He does so much behind the scenes to make field trips happen for teachers and students. He manages challenges when scheduling field trips, he goes over and above to make sure that students will be able to go on their trip. He always comes through even when it seems impossible, he finds a solution. Recently, I needed to schedule a fieldtrip to the US Capital Building for a Government class at Bryant High School. The students would learn about the Legislative Branch of Government. Unfortunately, this trip was the same day as a field trip for All 4th graders county wide who would be going the Kennedy Center. There were no drivers available that would be able to take the Bryant HS students on the field trip. Many Bryant students have not had the opportunity to visit Washington D.C or any of the sites there, but Mike worked his magic and emailed some retired School Bus Drivers to see if they might be able to step in and drive for the Bryant field trip. He emailed me back a short time later and told me he had a driver willing to do the field trip, and trip it was approved. Mike, Bryant HS is so grateful for your hard work, your caring attitude, and your commitment to Teachers, Students, and FCPS. You are absolutely a Jewel in the crown of Fairfax County Public Schools!"

Tiffany Stukes, Baileys Upper ES
"Ms. Stukes is one of our 5th grade teachers at Bailey’s Upper ES. She is kind, patient, and knowledgeable. She builds strong relationships with her students and families and always looks for ways to make learning fun. Recently, she introduced her poetry unit by rapping to her students. The students loved it! Since her introduction to poetry I have seen many of her students interested in writing poetry of their own. This is just one of the many ways Ms. Stukes has engaged her students in learning this year. She is a valued member of her 5th grade team and one of the team leads. She is flexible and always available to support her team members and other staff members in the building. We value Ms. Stukes and her expertise. We are fortunate to have her as part of the Bailey’s Upper ES community!"

"Thank you for your effort and energy and dedication to students. Our daughter still says you are her favorite PE teacher. Both my children have set and met goals with you physically that they are very proud of. Both are better runners and in better physical shape because of their time with you. We appreciate the time you invest and the input you give to help them succeed. Our son was so encouraged to share at breakfast how his ‘new’ team worked well together and took turns and everyone got to play. He had so much fun in PE! "Ginny Keel and Miguel Fernandez have shared a remarkable collaboration between English and Social Studies at Madison High School. This collaboration is an incredible journey for students to explore ancient governments compared to depictions of dystopian life in modern literature. The students are intrinsically motivated to compare the overarching themes and ideas of what would normally not be an exercise in interdisciplinary metacognition. Bravo to you from an admirer at Chantilly HS!"

Pamela Ozimina, Kings Park ES
"Over the last few years I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Pam at Kings Park. She started her career supporting students virtually and was always a positive presence when she’d join my “classroom.” This year, she brings the Kindergarten class that she supports to our library, Strategies and STEAM lab every Friday. Fridays are often a day when many people, myself included, start to lose a little ‘oomph,’ especially after a busy week. However, Pam brings the kinders with a spring in her step and a smile on her face. She loves working with the kids and it shows in every one of her interactions. Not only does she bring out positivity in the kids, but also lifts us up as her colleagues. She shares words of encouragement and helps with ideas for lessons. She is so proud of the students as individuals and takes pride in their growth. Her positivity radiates through our building, and we are so lucky to know her!"

Zeury Santana-Carrasco, Bryant HS
"Bryant is really fortunate to have an OUTSTANDING Family Liaison. Zeury is like the Energizer Bunny. She is here, she is there, she is everywhere around our school, helping students, families, and staff. Daily, she reaches out to families when students aren't coming to school, and locates resources to help them. She assists our social worker in parent teacher conferences, and she goes the extra mile for her Student Services Team. Today, she orchestrated an incredible presentation on the sensitive topic of Immigration which hits close to home for many of our students. Bryant has a large EL population and this issue is very important to them, impacting the present and future. She arranged for a reputable Immigration Lawyer and Para-Legal to come to Bryant and have an open and honest conversation about this topic. We had fifty plus students and families attend and all shared how beneficial this workshop was to them. This law team is willing to help our students and be an additional resource, all thanks to the hard work and reaching out efforts of Zeury."

Mister Baker, Bryant HS
"Though I put today's date, Mr. Baker HELPS every day of the year, and he takes on responsibilities that aren't assigned to him. For example, he sets up breakfast and lunch every day. He arrives to work early and has the table all set to go with breakfast food items and lunch menu. At Bryant, we don't have a working cafeteria so students place orders every morning. He greets every student by name, and he lightens the load of others (rushing in, me included) by tending to this. He is also our PE teacher, and he teaches PE 9, 10, Personal Fitness 1 and 2 in all classes. He never complains, is a true team player, and always has a positive word for all. He makes my life easy, I can count on him, and I am very grateful for Mr. Baker."

Rhonda Jones Howard, Hayfield SS
"Mrs. Rhonda Jones Howard took time to personally call and inform me that my daughter won a gift card from the amazing Young Scholars Program that she’s in at Hayfield Secondary. Even while Mrs. Jones Howard was speaking with me she was interacting with students regarding the upcoming field trip on March 8th. I could hear her giving them advice in the few seconds of their interaction. Life lessons are important for children and she reminded one student to always sign their name if they are turning in forms that money is attached to it. Multitasking came so easy for Mrs. Rhonda Jones Howard in the time I spoke with her. It was my first time speaking with a staff member from the school who was so informative as well as so personable. My daughter has mentioned Mrs. Jones Howard name at home saying how nice and how she enjoys the class. It’s rare for my daughter to mention let along talk about liking a teacher. The Young Scholars program is amazing as is the teacher who is in charge of it! Keep up the great work of keeping the kids accountable in goal setting, the after school program and giving them the experience of an upcoming field trip! A truly happy and satisfied parent!!"

Jennifer Correia, Bryant HS
"Jen is a breath of fresh air. She is always willing to lend a helping hand and is incredibly knowledgeable about the GED program, the benefits of obtaining a GED, and how it works. And she explains this logically and with such care to our students and families. I had a family walk in yesterday from Central Registration and have questions related to a high school diploma versus the GED. I just stopped by Jen's room hopeful to just ask a quick question. She gave this student, the family and myself all her time to explain the process. The family walked away feeling hopeful and excited due to Jen's positive and caring attitude. Jen is incredibly welcoming, friendly, and always finds ways to help students find a pathway to reaching their educational goals. I am so grateful that Jen is at Bryant."

Mike Carroll, Marshall HS
"Mike Carroll is a math teacher and head volleyball coach at Marshall High School. We are new to the school, but I’ve witnessed Coach Carroll visit two Volleyball tournaments, on weekends, to watch and support multiple players in his program competing for their club teams. To take this time out, on a weekend, shows genuine care and concern for his students/players. I know his dedication in the classroom and on the court far exceeds what I’ve witnessed, but I’d like to recognize him for his ongoing support to his Marshall HS math students/volleyball players. Thanks Mike!"

In 4th grade class Mrs Spage has had the children who would like to perform little presentations on Black and African American figures during Black History Month. As a person that identifies with the Black and African American culture it's important to me and my family to know the impact our people have and has on building this country, we are all proud to be a part of. I see the joy my kids have learning and preparing their presentations. So, thank you to Mrs Spage! I think it’s something that would be a good school pivot and not only during Black History Month but for other times of the year on other cultures/ethnicities in our schools. Just my feedback but wanted to share with you, the good work I believe is being done in Mrs. Spage classroom."

"The Attendance Team continues to work hard for the students of Hybla Valley. Over the past year, their collective dedication and action have led to a 10% decrease in chronic absenteeism from this time last year to this year. The team’s weekly collaboration has led to various school-wide initiatives such as attendance plan creation, the planning of attendance conferences, streamlining school-wide communication with the addition of the SBTS to the team, building teacher capacity and the planning of school-wide attendance initiatives. Notably, this year, they planned and implemented school-wide data dialogues to complete with grade level CLTs regarding mid-year attendance data. Teams explored grade level data, discussed factors within and out of their collective control and determined both school-wide and grade level areas of focus that could be strengthened to support attendance. Each and every team landed on communication and celebration. From their data driven feedback, the attendance team and leadership created thoughtful, actionable and effective school-wide celebration programs for students with the aim of increasing and celebrating student attendance. This Tuesday, after the long weekend, we had our first challenge which resulted in 95% student attendance, the student buy-in, excitement and attention to building each other up was palpable! Even this one day would not have been possible without the effort, reflection and creativeness of the Attendance Team. We are thankful for their hard work and tenacity and anticipate more reasons to celebrate as we continue this journey together!"

"Tim, Damion, and Ryan continue to support our school's news show. They coordinated with me for our new carpet installation. On the day we left for winter break, our students delivered the live news broadcast. Then Tim, Damion and Ryan came out and disassembled and moved all of our news show equipment, computers, and cameras. They removed some bookshelves to prepare for the carpet, too. After the carpet was installed, over break, they put everything back together again so that we could broadcast Jan. 2. In addition, since it was all taken apart, Tim asked if there was anything I'd like to change. I asked him for his suggestions, and they flipped the whole room, the green screen, the cameras, and placed student computers on desks so that they can sit to do their jobs. All of this was done and ready to be used while we were away. They've been out again this month to collaborate, suggest future purchases, and move our news show forward. We are so grateful!"

Deborah Alsado, Westbriar ES
"I had a very tough morning with trying to get my son to school. I had exhausted my entire arsenal of reasoning, bribes, and threats. So much so, that I accepted he would not be attending today (he was complaining of a stomachache which I was sure were related to anxiety rather than a gastrointestinal illness). I wrote a quick email to his Special Ed teacher (Ms. Alsado) explaining what I thought the issue could be and requesting some advice, so at the very least I could get him going to school tomorrow. Ms. Alsado called me within minutes of receiving my email, spoke to my son by phone and I was able to get him to school within 15 minutes of her conversation with him. I am very aware of how importance school attendance is, particular when a student is already behind academically and so I am so impressed with Ms. Alsado’s efforts and accommodations to support my child. "I came home from work just now and saw my son Owen’s Valentine’s Day card from Mr. Harrison and I have to share with you. It reads, "O, My Michigan Man! Go BLUE! You're one great kiddo. I am so happy I get to be your teacher. You make teaching so fun and enjoyable. Happy Valentines Day! Love, Hurricane Harrison" Mr. H knows my son so well and knows how to care for people/students well and make them feel seen. For those who know him, I don’t think there is any wonder how amazing of a teacher he is, but I still have to share. Mr. Harrison makes loving, liking, and educating these kids look effortless. He so genuinely cares for the kids in his classroom (and beyond, truly) and they can tell. My son hates to miss school because he wants more time in Mr. H’s classroom. I have visited his classroom on multiple occasions and I often ask the kids what their favorite thing about 4th grade is; every single one always says Mr. Harrison is the best part. He cares so deeply and his passion for life and for others is contagious. I truly believe my son will be a better, more positive, confident, & emotionally healthy person because of the time he has spent under Hadley Harrison’s influence and leadership. Because Mr. Harrison makes learning so engaging and fun, sometimes parents wonder if any learning takes place. My response is always that of all the teachers I have had and my children have had, Mr. Harrison is by far the most INTENTIONAL and talented educator I have ever had the privilege of knowing. My son is excited about what he is learning academically, but I am confident he is learning how to be an amazing human as well."

Anita Jewett, Virginia Run ES
"I want to thank Anita Jewett and recognize her as one of the most caring people I know. We met Anita at one of our son’s classmates’ birthday party. We started chatting about school and how difficult the transition has been for our son. Our son is a very quiet little boy and if there is a lot of kids around and a lot of commotion, he tends to withdrawal more into himself as he has been home with a nanny since COVID. He hasn’t had a lot of interaction with kids in group settings due to being home for the past four years. Anita talked to us about enrolling our son in the after-school Lego Club to help him interact more with kids while doing something he loves, playing with Legos. She walked me through getting him registered and it has been a game changer for him. Anita also keeps an eye out for our son during his lunch period and checks in on him frequently to chat with him and see how his day is going. Since we met Anita, she has been instrumental in helping our son adjust with many of the anxieties and challenges he experiences. She helps guide him through his challenges by showing him she cares and is there for him. She makes it a point to chat with him and makes sure he is having a great day and sees if he needs anything. She has taken extra care and time helping our son and has been very influential in him gaining the much-needed confidence in such a large group setting. She has developed a great relationship and trust with our son, and he will openly communicate with her when he is having any issues or challenges. During the trunk & treat, our son spotted Anita and ran over to her and gave her a hug! He was so excited to see her, and always is! She’s always there for me too, we chat each time we see each other while I’m waiting for our son after school. Her kindness and care are inspiring! She has played a significant role in helping our son adjust to his new environment and easing his anxieties each and every day! Anita, You are not only amazing with our son, but all the kids during Lego club, as they all love you, as I get to see it each week. Thank You Anita, you are truly wonderful and are making a substantial difference and contribution to not only our son’s growth and positivity but to all the other children you interact with!"

Nancy Borick, Dranesville ES
"Nancy Borick continues to be an outstanding teacher for our 6th grader. She is structured and has high expectations for her students, and is unbelievably kind, caring, and talented as an educator. Her students rise to such high expectations because she has taught them and supports them on how to do so. Mrs. Borick has provided our student with the compassion he needs to succeed and feel supported, as well as the learning tools and content necessary for success in 6th grade and in life. "Today a 6th grade student came to the library to tell me she was moving. In our conversation about what she would miss, she mentioned Ms. Deb Drembus, a teacher here at our school who I know she has a strong relationship with. The student then shared with me how Ms. Drembus has helped her in 4th, 5th and 6th grade make friendships, adjust to a new country and learn English. Although Ms. Drembus is a Special Education Educator and not an ESOL teacher, she nurtured this nonIEP student for three years and helped her grow into the confident, fluent English speaker that she's become. Robyn Andrews, Hayfield SS
"Robyn Andrews is the most dedicated Instructional Assistant I have had the pleasure of working with as an employee with Fairfax County Public Schools. In conjunction with a series of substitutes who have been in and out, Robyn has jumped in to ensure students are getting the support they need and has been a calming influence amongst the chaos. She has worked with our Collaborative Team leads in the department to make sure that lessons are not only posted in Schoology, but that they are engaging and meet the needs of these students. AnnMarie Delvalle, Mantua ES
"I am the grandmother of a student at Mantua Elementary School. I volunteer in the classroom, help with parties and come to have lunch with my granddaughter, so am in the office often. What a pleasure it is to walk in the school office and be greeted by such a kind administrative assistant each time! Mrs. Delvalle always recognizes me and has something cute to tell me about my granddaughter. She is my granddaughter's favorite person to visit at the school. We can't walk past the office without stopping in to see Mrs. Delvalle! When she was walking my granddaughter to class during a late arrival one time, my granddaughter commented on a fun bulletin board she saw in the hallway. The next day Mrs. Delvalle had gotten all the pieces together to send home with her so she could make one of the items from the display, too. She goes above and beyond every day! I have heard her speaking fluent Spanish to other parents when I have been waiting for an early dismissal. Mantua truly has a gem in Mrs. Delvalle. It is nice to have such a kind, caring person welcoming people to the school and caring for the students! Thank you, Mrs. Delvalle!!"

Katie Lee Yang, Dranesville ES
"Katie Lee Yang joined our SIIP NIC school team this school year, leaned into operationalizing a SIIP strategy, and has been an instrumental collaborative partner in lifting up a PDSA cycle to improve teaching and learning at Dranesville. Mrs. Lee Yang is a positive voice on our team, as she identifies needs, considers ways to improve instructional practices and skillfully celebrates positive student outcomes. During this PDSA cycle, Mrs. Lee Lang's caring and collaborative approach was reflected in her suggestion that our team use Flip Grid to provide a space for students to share their mathematical thinking. This was creative, accessible to students, and resulted in increased student engagement and communication using mathematical vocabulary. Mrs. Lee Yang was part of a team that presented our PDSA cycle with our Network Improvement Community today. The work doesn't stop at just planning though, they make sure people get this message and spread the word by talking to parents at Kiss and Ride, our parents picking up at the Walkers door, stuffing flyers in backpacks, and making personal phone calls to get people in our doors. Their efforts are seen by staff and community members and our community is better because they're a part of it."

"I am pleased to acknowledge and commend the outstanding contributions of Mr. Quintanilla, who joined our community as a Building Supervisor in September. From his first day at Eagle View, Mr. Quintanilla has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to fostering positive relationships with both staff and students. One of Mr. Quintanilla's remarkable qualities is his unwavering dedication to going above and beyond his role as a building supervisor. He not only ensures the safety and cleanliness of our school during the daytime but also extends his support to fellow staff members. Recognizing that some of our custodial and cafeteria staff may face challenges with technology, Mr. Quintanilla takes the initiative to assist them, ensuring their inclusion in school events and helping them navigate essential tools such as Google Forms and emails. Moreover, Mr. Quintanilla plays a pivotal role in the professional development of our custodial staff, ensuring they understand and fulfill their responsibilities as FCPS employees by completing MyPDE trainings. His proactive approach reflects his commitment to the success and well-being of the entire school community. On February 6th, Mr. Quintanilla's dedication to our school community was witnessed firsthand. The day after a fifth-grade student had a particularly rough day at school, Mr. Quintanilla went above and beyond by going to the student's class, picking him up, and providing mentorship. During their time together, Mr. Quintanilla ensured that the student was seen, heard, and cared for. The positive impact of this interaction was evident as the student had a significantly better day afterward. The student's improved well-being following Mr. Quintanilla's intervention highlights the profound positive influence he has on our school community. Brittanye Mohrbacher, Chantilly HS
"My 10th grader and his debate partner totally forgotten to turn in the parent's permission form and was disqualified from participating in debate tournament (i.e., WACFL 2). However, Ms. Mohrbacher took time to re-enroll them for the tournament. And they performed well and received a half-bid to the MetroFinals Championship. Next, CHS Debate team decided not to participate in WACFL 4 but WACFL 5. When Ms. Mohrbacher realized that my child and his teammate had already prepared their cases for more than 40 hrs, she again took time and extra effort to enroll them and spent her Saturday with them despite the fact that they were the only team from CHS. At WACFL 4, they won the rounds with another half-bid, which fully qualified them for the Varsity Division in Varsity MetroFinals Championship in March. We really appreciate Ms. Mohrbacher for her genuine care and kindness!!! Truly, she has made a lasting positive impact in them!"

Kimberly Dawson, Longfellow MS
"Ms. Dawson puts her heart and soul into supporting and cultivating the talents and skills of each and every one of her chorus students. She works non-stop, staying late to organize amazing opportunities for their growth as singers, as individuals, and as leaders. She creates a welcoming environment where all students feel seen and accepted. She nurtured and encourages her students with seemingless boundless energy. My daughter had enjoyed singing as a child, singing constantly, even mimicking and developing a love of opera. All of this came to end when she had a bad experience with a 2nd grade music teacher. He told her that she should stop singing in a squeaky voice and so she did. She stopped singing at all. It took her 5 years to gradually and slowly get back to singing. After I mentioned this to Ms. Dawson at back to school night, she has taken her under her wing, very gradually and carefully working to help bring back my daughter’s self-confidence as a singer. She instinctively knew that she couldn’t push, but that with the right encouragement at the right time, my daughter would come around. My daughter has really thrived under her care. And when my daughter told me last month that she has decided to record an audition of VA All-State chorus, I was floored! This is such an incredible turn-around and in no small part due to the caring and commitment of Ms. Dawson. She is an exemplary teacher and we feel so lucky my daughter has the privilege of being her student."

Jackie Garcia, Woodburn ES
"As a school registrar I recognize the importance of making sure all students are registered and attending as quickly as possible. Sometimes families move and we don't know where they went or if they are in school. In my experience, some people are not as diligent as others in ensuring that transient families get back in school. This is NOT the case with Ms. Garcia. When one of your families stopped attending she was able to "track them down" and then she did enough research to find our school and me. She emailed me with information so that I could reach out to the parent and register the students. They will begin on Tuesday. If Ms Garcia had not "gone the extra mile" these children might still be out of school. I am extremely appreciative for her intention, effort, and diligence. I wish she worked for my district. Thank you Ms. Garcia!"

Ms. Rodriguez maintains an organized and highly effective self-contained classroom designed to meet the needs of students who require a highly structured setting with social-emotional, self-regulation, and safety/crisis/behavioral supports in order to access instruction and the educational setting. Ms. Rodriguez rose to the occasion and advocated for the other class to combine into hers for the week, rather than having alternate substitutes support them. Ms. Rodriguez immediately read all students' IEPs, adjusted her academic rotations to include each child, and has worked tirelessly to support two classes simultaneously. Ms. Rodriguez approaches her work with a level of passion that is truly commendable. Eagle View is lucky to have Ms. Rodriguez on our team!"
