Fairfax County School Board Approves FY22 Budget
Budget Provides Resources for Recovery from COVID-19, 5 Days of In-person Learning in Fall
May 21, 2021
Dear FCPS Families,
Last night, our School Board approved a $3.4 billion FY22 budget that gives us the resources we need to help our students and staff begin the long recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, and to prepare us to return to five days of in-person instruction this fall.
I know that county resources are being stretched to the limit in these challenging times, and I am grateful that the Board of Supervisors recognizes the immeasurable return on investment for the entire county that comes from the world-class education FCPS provides to our students.
Our budget ensures all students are supported and able to thrive. Areas of focus include: additional resources for English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students, an increase in technology support to keep pace with a changing learning environment, and additional social workers and psychologists to care for the mental health and wellness of our students.
This budget also recognizes the extraordinary contributions of our staff during the pandemic, working endless nights and weekends to meet more than just the academic needs of our students. All this, while staff were dealing with the pandemic’s impact on their own families. I continue to be grateful for our Fairfax family.
I look forward to being together again in our schools this fall, for five days of in-person instruction. I sincerely hope that families who have taken time away from FCPS will come back to the world-class education that we offer.
Thank you again, and for more information on our budget, please visit the FCPS website.
