Parental Notification of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) Recognitions that are Communicated to High Schools

This regulation is newly established. 

I. PURPOSE 

To provide procedures for parental notification of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) recognitions that are communicated to high schools by NMSC. 

II. SUMMARY OF CHANGES 

    This is a newly established regulation. 

III. NOTIFICATION OF RECOGNITION 

Upon receipt of any NMSC recognitions, the principal or designee must notify in writing the student and parent/guardian of the recognition within two weeks of receiving the information from NMSC and include an acknowledgement of how and when the student will receive the certificate printed by NMSC or any other materials sent to the school by NMSC that are intended for the students or parents/guardians. Additionally, the principal or designee must share with the Region Office the receipt of the recognitions and confirm communication with the parents/guardians and students.

IV.RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SCHOOL TO CONFIRM RECOGNITIONS WITH NMSC ANNUALLY 

Should a high school not receive any recognition information from NMSC by the designated fall release date posted on the NMSC webpage, the principal or designee will contact NMSC using the contact information on the NMSC webpage to confirm if there were recognitions from their school and request the list of recognized students be emailed to the school from NMSC for confirmation. 

Should a high school that had students awarded as Semi-Finalists not receive any information from NMSC about Finalists by the release date posted on the NMSC webpage, the principal or designee will contact NMSC using the contact information on the NMSC webpage to confirm if there were recognitions from their school and request the list of students and decisions be emailed to the school from NMSC for confirmation.
