Kathleen Walts
In 2023, Kathleen Walts was appointed executive director for the Office of Equity and Student Relations within the Chief Equity Office. She provides leadership and supervision for Title IX, Equity and Student Conduct, Equity and Cultural Responsiveness, and Equity Administration.
Walts joined FCPS in July 2005 as principal of Kings Park Elementary School, where she led a highly effective staff to increase student learning and achievement, and served as one of the first principals to implement the district's instructional coaching program. She then served as Principal in Residence, providing professional development and coaching support for new principals. Most recently, she served as Executive Director of Professional Learning.
Previously, Walts served as principal of elementary schools in New York and Baltimore County (Maryland). While principal at Hebbville Elementary School in Baltimore County, the school earned numerous Maryland School Performance Awards.
Walts began her career as a middle school special education teacher in Baltimore County Public Schools, where she also served as a preschool and elementary special education teacher, as well as assistant principal.
The first woman in her family to attend college, Walts earned a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Geneseo, and a master’s degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Loyola University Maryland. She participated in the Harvard Principals’ Institute and studied international special education programs at the University of Oslo in Norway.
