Mount Vernon District Representative

Mateo Dunne is the Mount Vernon District Representative on the Fairfax County School Board. The Mount Vernon District includes the Mount Vernon HS, South County HS, and West Potomac HS pyramids. While the School Board is a part-time position, Mateo works tirelessly to support his constituents and ensure every child receives a world-class education.

Mateo is a proud husband, father, attorney, and community leader. He moved to the Mount Vernon District 20 years ago so that his children could attend the best public schools. His three children attended FCPS from 1st grade to 12th grade.  

Mateo has served as an attorney for 20 years, representing diverse clients in complex litigation before international tribunals, Federal courts, and regulatory agencies. He has also advised clients in international business transactions and investments. He has served as Deputy Chief Counsel for the $400 million Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy and Associate General Counsel for the $10 billion Missile Defense Agency. In addition, he served as COO for a $2 billion Federal agency. Mateo served as the Vice President of the Stratford Landing Citizens Association for several years. Previously, he served as Vice President of Advocacy for the Fairfax County Council PTA and 1st Vice President for the Fairfax County Federation of Citizens Associations.

Mateo comes from a family of educators. He has coached hundreds of children in soccer and dozens of 5th and 6th Grade students in religious education. He is committed to providing a world-class education for every child--preserving the FCPS legacy of excellence while expanding academic and extracurricular opportunities for all children. 

Mateo graduated from Georgetown University with a J.D. and a M.S. with Distinction. Previously, he graduated from Emory University with a M.A. and B.A. summa cum laude
