Symbols have power. As a person of color in support of students of color in particular, but all students attending WT Woodson, I believe it is important that they do not have to attend a school where the namesake has a questionable background.

Hi. I was very much in favor of re-naming schools named for conferate generals because their cause was solely about maintaining slavery. Woodson was a segregationist; yet, he also had a very long career with FCPS and he was a contributor to our legacy.

I read Mr. Woodson’s letter about integration and did not find evidence of racial prejudice. On the contrary it evidenced respect for all students and a respect for community schools. As a child, I lived through this.

It's not necessary. W.T. Woodson did remarkable things personally and for the community. Why smear his name and reputation?

Not Sure

Is C.G. Woodson perfect? Will something controversial come out in researching C.G's life... leading to a future name change? Was he chosen out of last name convenience? If renamed, why after a person? Why not Cavalier h.s.?

What about an Indian Tribe? Or just Woodson Area High School

Drop WT and erase all information about him from the building. Naming it after another Woodson with no connection to Fairfax seems like an effort to save on new uniforms.

With both men having the same last name, the general public will not be aware that the name was even changed, thus leading to people equating Carter G. Woodson with WT Woodson, a known segregationist.

Not specifically, but I feel the name should have some connection to Fairfax County. Carter G. Woodson was born in southern VA and raised in WV. There is no real connection to FCPS or the county.
