Algebra Power Up Summer Employment Opportunities

Algebra Power Up supports student success in Algebra 1 by Grade 8.

Summer 2025 Positions

 

Description: Implements an Algebra 1 summer program for rising grade 8 students; utilizes best practices in teaching to achieve curriculum goals; manages student behavior; follows pre-designed lessons to increase student's content knowledge for Algebra 1; facilitates Project-based Learning; maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, regulation, and policy; attends mandatory in-person and/or virtual training provided prior to and during the session. 

Qualifications: Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education. Endorsement in Mathematics or Middle Education Mathematics and experience in teaching middle school curriculum and or Algebra 1 endorsement, preferred. Knowledge of the instructional practices, techniques, and materials pertaining to the assigned teaching specialty; proficiency in technology; strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to engage and motivate students of diverse backgrounds and varied skill levels in a collaborative learning environment.

Description:  Collaborates to support Algebra Power Up teachers; plans instruction; assists teachers with areas of differentiation and curriculum modification; provides guidance and coaching, as needed; attends mandatory in-person and/or virtual training provided prior to and during the session.

Qualifications: Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education.  Experience in teaching middle school students, preferred. Knowledge of the instructional practices, techniques, and materials pertaining to the assigned teaching specialty; proficiency in technology; strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to engage and motivate students of diverse backgrounds and varied skill levels in a collaborative learning environment.

Description: Collaborates to support English Learner (EL) students; provides intervention and direct instruction for students who are not making expected progress; assists teachers in the areas of differentiation and accommodations for EL students; conducts teacher training and provides guidance, as needed; attends mandatory in-person and/or virtual training provided prior to and during the session.  

Qualifications: Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education and an English as a Second Language endorsement, with experience in teaching EL students. Knowledge of the instructional practices, techniques, and materials pertaining to the assigned teaching specialty; proficiency in technology; strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to engage and motivate students of diverse backgrounds and varied skill levels in a collaborative learning environment.

Description: Collaborates to support Special Education students; provides intervention and direct instruction for students who are not making expected progress;  assists teachers with curriculum modification and the interpretation of IEP documents; provides guidance and coaching, as needed; attends mandatory in-person and/or virtual training provided prior to and during the session.

Qualifications: Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education and an  endorsement in Special Education. Experience in teaching Special Education students, preferred. Knowledge of the instructional practices, techniques, and materials pertaining to the assigned teaching specialty; proficiency in technology; strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to engage and motivate students of diverse backgrounds and varied skill levels in a collaborative learning environment.

Description: Collaborates to support the transitional needs of students and optimize learning; provides one-on-one, small group, and/or whole group instruction for students who are not making expected progress; assists in the planning of specialized student differentiation and accommodations in the educational setting; conducts teacher training and provides guidance, as needed; attends mandatory in-person and/or virtual training provided prior to and during the session. 

Qualifications: Must hold a license issued by the Virginia Department of Education, with experience in teaching elementary or middle school students. Knowledge of the instructional practices, techniques, and materials pertaining to the assigned teaching specialty; proficiency in technology; strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to engage and motivate students of diverse backgrounds and varied skill levels in a collaborative learning environment.

Description: Performs a variety of paraprofessional curricular, instructional, clerical, and support tasks to support teachers and other professional staff in the IMAGINE summer program classrooms for students in grades K-6; assists with the daily management of the students; prepares a variety of instructional materials and reports, as requested; works with individuals or small groups of students; performs related duties as required or assigned; attends mandatory in-person and/or virtual training provided prior to and during the session. 

Qualifications: Graduation from high school or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) with one (1) year of experience working with children as a volunteer or paid employee, or equivalent participation in any teacher education introductory course with the provision of documented support. Advanced degree beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience. Knowledge and understanding of child growth and development; knowledge of instructional procedures and practices applicable to assignment; knowledge of subject matter reinforcement practices of the classes to which assigned; ability to work effectively with students and staff; ability to assist with the implementation of an instructional program and related technology, and to participate in monitoring and ensuring appropriate student behavior; ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Description: Performs a variety of general office duties required to support the activities of a school to include responding to requests for information, maintaining and updating records and preparing documents; provides assistance in coordinating classroom coverage and/or substitute services as directed; orders, receives, examines, and distributes supplies; provides general assistance to administrators and teachers; attends mandatory in-person and/or virtual training provided prior to and during the session. 

Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED), with some experience in general office administration and/or customer experience. SIS and Red Rover experience, preferred. Knowledge of basic business office practices and procedures; proficiency in the use of technology and ability to learn associated software applications; ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to provide positive customer service and to develop and maintain effective working relationships with culturally diverse students, families, school staff, and community members; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Description: Performs a variety of duties required to maintain a safe and secure program site; assists with the implementation of student security and supervision tasks that foster positive school and community relations; monitors buildings and grounds for compliance with speed limit, parking, and other safety regulations; supports various aspects of student activities.

Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate, supplemented by specialized safety or security environment training, with some experience in school security and currently active certification approved by the Virginia Center for School Safety. Applicants must be at least 21 years old at time of appointment. Knowledge of local county, and state rules and regulations requiring an alcohol-, drug-, weapons- and tobacco-free environment; ability to control students and maintain a healthy school environment; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Summer Learning programming is contingent upon the final approval of the FY 26 budget. Position offers will be rescinded if programs are not funded.
