Within 30 calendar days of the qualifying event 1st day of the month following the qualifying event

If you or a spouse or dependent child gains/loses eligibility of existing health coverage, including job-based, individual, and student plans, you may enroll or cancel coverage with FCPS.

To enroll/cancel coverage, you must complete the HR-124 (Current employees) or HR-461 (Retirees) as well as the required documentation based on the dependent(s) being enrolled. See Dependent Eligibility chart.

Dependents Turning Age 26

When your child turns age 26, he/she is no longer eligible for FCPS coverage as a dependent. Your dependent will be automatically removed from your coverage. Coverage will end on the last day of the month in which he/she turns 26, unless certified as disabled by your health/dental plan prior to his/her 26th birthday.

Even though your child may be aging off your FCPS coverage, he/she will be eligible for COBRA coverage. With COBRA, your child will be able to keep the same benefits he/she has now for an additional 36 months. However, he/she will be responsible to pay the full cost of coverage.
