Two employees strategizing

Colleague Assistance Program (CAP)

Helping give teachers additional guidance and support.

Mentors are an extremely valuable resource for teachers who need to strengthen their skills in specific instructional areas. FCPS’ Colleague Assistance Program (CAP) was developed with that in mind. It offers teachers additional guidance and support to help them meet standards and goals, resulting in improved student performance. CAP mentors or “collaborators” use their expertise to provide a targeted approach toward growing their assigned teacher’s skills and comfort level. The collaboration takes place within a maximum of 24 hours during a five-month period.

Teachers or their administrators may request CAP assistance by completing the CAP Request Form and submitting it to the Office of Employee Relations (OER). The deadline for requesting CAP assistance is March 15th of each school year. Once the CAP Program Specialist receives the CAP form, a collaborator will be assigned to work with the teacher.

If you are a retired educator, administrator, or teacher on an extended leave who exhibits professionalism and a passion for teaching, we encourage you to learn more about becoming a teacher collaborator, please look over the job description below. If it looks like something you are interested in, contact the CAP Program Specialist at [email protected] or 571-423-3070 for additional information.
