Student Ambassadors
Creating Connections and a Sense of Belonging for All Students
Student Ambassadors provide new students with critical information about their new school community, a platform to make connections, and an opportunity to gain a sense of belonging. They give our new students a friendly face on their very first day and the following weeks, and maybe even a friend for life!
The Student Ambassador Program benefits the new student as well as the entire school community.
For our new students, being connected to their community often leads to:
- Increased resilience
- Increased academic achievement
- Reduced stress
- Reduced risk behaviors
The Student Ambassador Program provides a sense of community for all students. It encourages students to connect with peers of diverse backgrounds and interests to create an inclusive school environment. It also provides those directly involved with the program an opportunity to develop leadership skills and increase their school engagement.

All Purple Star Schools (with hyperlink to Purple Star Schools webpage) are required to have a peer-led transition support team; however, many other schools also have Student Ambassador Programs and other welcoming practices to support new students and families.
When enrolling your new student, ask the registrar or school counselor about Student Ambassadors! They will be able to provide you with the contact information of the program sponsor or contact them on your behalf.
Any new student! Successful Student Ambassador Programs assist military-connected students, civilian students, and all highly mobile and transitioning students in connecting with their new community and peers.
The program is available throughout the year and serves to help new students whenever they enroll.
While the program is unique to each school, you may see the following components at your school:
- A friend on the student’s first day
- School tours
- Lunch/recess with an ambassador
- Welcome packet
- Connection to peers and faculty
- Critical information about the school community
- Social Media/communication platforms
- Support for transitioning students
