FCPS offers a wealth of opportunities for professionals transitioning from federal and state government roles into the public education sector. Your dedication to public service makes you a strong candidate for both educational and operational positions. By joining FCPS, you can continue making a meaningful impact while embarking on a new career in public education.

We understand that shifting from government work to education comes with unique challenges, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.

If you hold a bachelor’s degree, you can become provisionally licensed to teach in just a few weeks through iteach, a self-paced online teacher preparation program. FCPS also provides a one-year local Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) license, allowing you to begin teaching while working toward your provisional teaching license. Additional pathways to teacher licensure, outside of traditional university programs, include the VDOE Career Switcher Program and Troops to Teachers.

Beyond teaching, FCPS offers a variety of operational roles in departments such as finance, human resources, safety and security, food service, transportation, and facilities.

We value your experience and commitment to public service and provide professional growth opportunities in a supportive environment. Let’s continue making a difference together!

How does the ERFC retirement plan work?

  • The ERFC 2001 Tier 2 plan is a defined benefit pension offered to FCPS employees hired on or after July 1, 2017. Unlike 403(b) or 457(b) plans that end when the money you contributed runs out, ERFC gives you monthly payments from the month you retire until your death.

How much money can I put in my retirement fund each month to maximize my benefits?

  • The amount you contribute to your ERFC 2001 Tier 2 plan is determined by the FCPS school board. Your current contribution is set at 3%. This amount cannot be decreased and is a mandatory contribution. FCPS, as the employer, puts in 6.48% currently. The contribution rates are re-evaluated every two years by the FCPS school board.
