Retired Teacher Opportunities
FCPS welcomes retired teachers who want to continue making a difference in the classroom
As a retired teacher, you already know how rewarding it is to help future generations to grow and succeed. Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) welcomes retired teachers who want to continue participating in education. We value your extensive experience, and we are here to support you in a role that suits your skillset.
Recent changes in legislation make it easier than ever for retired teachers to return to the classroom. All your full-time years of contracted teaching experience will be credited for salary consideration. Plus, for out-of-state educators, please know we offer two retirement plans. Come work with us!
For Retired Virginia Educators
Educational Employees' Supplementary Retirement System (ERFC)
ERFC is a defined-benefit retirement plan known as a pension, in which a specific amount is guaranteed for each participant for life after retirement. Generally, FCPS employees are automatically enrolled as members if they are full-time educational, administrative, or support employees, and they are eligible for a retirement benefit after five years of service. The ERFC pension supplements the primary benefits you'll earn from the Virginia Retirement System (VRS) and Social Security.

Virginia Retirement System (VRS)
The Virginia Retirement System (VRS) is a mandatory defined benefit program sponsored by the Commonwealth of Virginia. All full-time educational, administrative, or operational employees (typically monthly-paid) are members of the VRS. After five years of eligible service, you become vested in this system.
