Capital Women's Care-Cigna Contract Negotiations Continue
(posted 11/4/23)
All health provider contracts (doctors, labs, hospitals, etc.) go through periodic negotiations, and unfortunately, there are times when those negotiations reach a stalemate. In those cases, the law requires the provider to send a notice to their patients when there is a risk of a contract ending. This has recently occurred with the Capital Women’s Care group. Participants who see providers in this practice can expect to receive this notice in the mail within the next few days.
Cigna and Capital Women’s Care are continuing their negotiations and we are hopeful that negotiations will reach a successful conclusion. Should this not occur, please remember that the contract that FCPS has in place with Cigna provides generous out-of-network benefits and that participants can continue to access Capital Women’s Care as an out-of-network provider.
Recently, other provider practices in this area have issued termination notices and subsequently successfully negotiated new terms. For example, Privia and the Neurology Center of Fairfax were able to successfully come to a contract agreement after issuing a notice of termination.
As new information becomes available regarding Capital Women’s Care’s contract, staff will provide updates to employees via web page updates. If you have questions about how out-of-network claims are filed and paid, please see “Hot Topics” on the Frequently Asked Questions webpage.
