Virginia Department of Health (VDOH) Youth Survey

Learning about the health behavior of our youth to improve health education.

The Virginia Youth Survey asks middle and high school students about behaviors that can affect their health now and later in life.

The survey monitors priority health risk behaviors established during youth such as:

  • Physical activity
  • Nutrition
  • Unintentional injuries
  • Sexual behaviors
  • Tobacco, alcohol, or other drug use

The Virginia Department of Health administers this survey every odd year in randomly selected Virginia public schools. Fairfax County Public Schools last participated in the survey in 2021.

Survey results and more information are available at the Virginia Youth Survey website.

The Virginia Department of Health sponsors this survey in collaboration with the Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth.
