The Family Academy offers in-person and virtual classes, workshops, webinars, and programs for families. Listed below are numerous opportunities for families to register. Choose the opportunity and find information about dates, times, locations, and registration information.
Co-Parenting: Two Parents, Two Homes
This 4-hour class helps parents focus on the responsibilities of parenting from separate households while keeping children out of the middle as the parents negotiate custody, visitation, child support, or divorce. The cost is $40 per individual or $60 for couples attending the same session.

Want to learn more about Lexia® Core5 & Lexia® PowerUp? Join Lexia® Learning for a parent information night to learn how FCPS is using Lexia® Core5 and Lexia® PowerUp in classrooms across the district to support students' Literacy growth. Reunificación familiar

This class is for immigrant families that are going through the family reunification process. It is specifically targeted to parents and children who have lived apart for at least one year and are recently reunified. These free classes are offered online.

Mind in the Making: The Science of Early Learning
At this series of workshops you will learn the research behind the Seven Essential Life Skills Every Child Needs. Learn strategies for improving these skills, the importance of them in children’s lives, and activities to promote these evidence-based executive functioning skills. This course will take place on eight Thursdays at the Dunn Loring Administrative Center.
Registration is for attendance on all the dates with a cohort of parents/caregivers. Space is limited.

Join Chana Engel, CRNP (she/her/hers), a Child, Adolescent, and Family Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).
She is currently working on teen depression studies and has worked within the
Emotion and Development Branch (EDB) of the NIMH since 2010.Chana has diverse expertise in pediatric mental health, particularly in bipolar spectrum disorders, depression, anxiety, chronic irritability, developmental disorders and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

Reducing Stress and Increasing Happiness: A Webinar for Families
Kids and families are under stress from so many sources, and they are suffering as a result. Achievement pressure, time pressure, social pressure, and uncertainty about a rapidly changing world are eroding the health of our youth. But it doesn’t have to be that way!

Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among children and adolescents ages 12-18.
The course will teach you how to apply the MHFA Action Plan (ALGEE):
• Assess for risk of suicide or harm.
• Listen nonjudgmentally.
• Give reassurance and information.
• Encourage appropriate professional help.
• Encourage self-help and other support strategies.
