The Family Academy offers in-person and virtual classes, workshops, webinars, and programs for families. Listed below are numerous opportunities for families to register. Choose the opportunity and find information about dates, times, locations, and registration information.
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Family Trainings
All family members and caregivers are welcome to attend monthly, virtual ABA Family Training. On the date and time of the session, select "Join this Session" to attend.
If you need an interpreter for any of the trainings, please contact Liane Sprunk two weeks before the training at 571-423-4110 or lsprunk@fcps.edu.
Participants will learn how to teach self-help, living, and social skills to increase their child’s independence.

Co-Parenting: Two Parents, Two Homes
This 4-hour class helps parents focus on the responsibilities of parenting from separate households while keeping children out of the middle as the parents negotiate custody, visitation, child support, or divorce. The cost is $40 per individual or $60 for couples attending the same session. Pre-registration required.

Military Family Workshop
The Advanced Academic Program will present information on the Advanced Academic Program’s (AAP) philosophy and continuum of services, the screening process for students with previous advanced academic services, those new to AAP, and what services look like at the various school levels. The presentation will be geared towards military families.

SibShops and SibTeens
The Sibshops workshops are for children in grades 2-6 enrolled in Fairfax County Public Schools who have siblings with support needs to meet other siblings in a relaxed setting. Celebrate the many contributions made by brothers and sisters of children with special needs, share sibling experiences, and receive peer support. Play games and have fun!

SibTeens is a community-building group for Middle School siblings of children with support needs. We have fun activities, both recreational and art-based, as well as discussion activities. It’s a unique opportunity for students to share about their lives and support each other while normalizing their life experiences.

Family Resource Center - Webinars
Join us for Part 3 of our Teen Series with Dr. Unnatti Jain, a Certified Behavior Change Expert / TEDx speaker / Author / Keynote speaker who studies behavioral patterns. In this session participants will learn about evidence-based practices in teaching students with significant cognitive disabilities and how they apply to math instruction. Specific early numeracy objectives will be discussed, along with related activities to support these objectives using items easily found within the home. A participant guide will be provided, containing a variety of tools and resources.

Supporting families to understand what accommodations are and how they support twice exceptional (2e) students in accessing learning, learn strategies to empower their 2e child to understand and request to use their 504/IEP accommodations, explore ways to collaborate with educators to ensure effective accommodation use and to gain resources to support ongoing conversations with your child about accommodations and their learning needs.
