Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Advanced Academic Programs offers several challenging learning experiences to meet the needs of a broad range of advanced learners in high schools. Advanced Academic services are implemented using a school-based model through rigorous programs and coursework. Course offerings vary by each school.
Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST)
Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology provides an innovative, specialized learning environment for highly motivated students who have a genuine interest in the biological, physical, mathematical, and computer sciences.
Advanced Placement® (AP)
The Advanced Placement® (AP) Program provides academic college preparatory coursework in the major subject fields. AP classes emulate introductory college courses, preparing students for selective universities and colleges.
International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Program (DP) and Career-Related Program (CP)
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Program (DP) provides comprehensive rigorous education with an international perspective for 11th and 12th graders.
Dual Enrollment
Dual enrollment courses are taught at the high school by an FCPS teacher and offer college credit through agreements with a college or university.
Honors, Grades 9-12
Information on high school Honors classes which are open to all students who seek additional academic rigor. Fairfax County offers open enrollment in Honors social studies, English, science, and mathematics classes.
International Baccalaureate® (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP)
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP) is an all-inclusive program for students in grades 6 through 10, with students choosing to pursue the FCPS MYP certificate in tenth grade.
