In order to determine a student's needs in the educational setting and to develop interventions, Occupational Therapy (OT) assesses:
The demands of required activities and the environment.
The student's participation and roles/routines within the school environment.
The motor performance and self-regulation of the student.
Interventions may include:
Collaborating with school teams to promote successful school performance for individuals or groups of students.
Conducting workshops or in-service training.
Consulting with teachers, parents, and other members of the school team.
Co-leading classes or group with a teacher or another school professional.
Working with students individually or in small groups.
Accessing Services
OT services are centrally administered and available in all FCPS schools. School teams collaborate to determine if a student may require consultation or evaluation by OT.
Available services include:
Support for school teams and families in the development and implementation of 504 plans; to include evaluation.
Consultation
Evaluation for students receiving special education or being evaluated for special education services.
Ongoing consultation, collaboration, or intervention for students as part of their Individualized Education Program (IEP).
