About High School English
The high school English curriculum provides a comprehensive study of language, literature, and language processes for grades nine through twelve. The Program of Studies for each grade level meets and exceeds the Virginia Standards of Learning for English, encompassing speaking, listening, viewing, and technology skills to complement the traditional language and literature.
Advanced English courses such as Honors English 9, 10, 11, and 12, Advanced Placement English, and the English courses in the International Baccalaureate program, provide a rigorous program of study for advanced students, and high school students also have the opportunities to extend their study of English through elective programs in journalism (newspaper), photojournalism (yearbook), speech, debate, and creative writing.
