Summer is a great time to fulfill the Economics and Personal Finance course requirement.
Course Information
Self-Directed Economics and Personal Finance requires students to complete work without direct teacher support.
- This course is asynchronous.
- This course is self-directed.
- Students will access content for this course through FCPS Schoology.
- Students will have a facilitator but no direct teacher support.
- Students will read through 14 modules, complete 140 exit tickets, 14 module tests, and a final exam.
- Students may only take this course as "Pass/Fail".
- An opportunity to take the Financial Literacy (W!SE) certification exam at a FCPS school site will be provided to students that take any Economics and Personal Finance course. Learn more about FCPS students earning CTE credentials.
Eligibility
Current FCPS Students (Grades 9-12)*
*Current FCPS 12th graders are eligible if they are graduating in August of 2025. Current FCPS students who will be in grade 9 in 2025-26 are eligible but must discuss the course with their school counselor and parent/guardian before registering.
*Students who are not enrolled in FCPS are not eligible to take this course. Only current FCPS students during the 2024-25SY and continuing into the 2025-26SY are eligible to take the course over the summer.

Refunds
On-Time Refund Request
FCPS will process a full refund if the request is received by 11:59 p.m. on June 25.
Late Refund Request
- Refund requests received after June 25 and before 11:59 p.m. on June 27 will be assessed a late cancellation fee of $25.
- No refund requests received after 11:59 p.m. on June 27 will be approved.
Refund Process
- Submit all refund requests online
- FCPS will process the refund by check or to the credit card account on record
- Allow 4-6 weeks for processing
