Brookfield Elementary Capital Project
Information about the Renovations and Additions
The Brookfield Elementary School project was identified according to the Renovation Queue, approved in 2009. Brookfield ES is ranked 47 of 63 schools in the queue. Planning and design for the project was funded by the 2021 bond, with construction expected to be funded by the 2023 bond. The completed project will provide modern amenities and add approximately 17,900 to the building.
This is an exciting opportunity for our school and community as we improve our current school building and have several additions.

Project Scope: Complete renovation and reorganization of the existing building, including demolition of interior, and non-bearing walls. New academic addition of 2-stor classroom addition, new gymnasium, administration addition - single story main administration suite and main entrance addition, expanded cafeteria including a new kitchen, new library to be located in the current gymnasium, new playgrounds, and an outdoor classroom.
We are pleased to inform you that the contract for the construction of our renovation and addition for our elementary school has been fully awarded. This milestone marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Brookfield Elementary School community. FCPS is thrilled to see this important project move forward.
Hess Construction LLC, was selected through a competitive bidding process. Construction value is $39,860,000.00. Hess is also the construction contractor for Bonnie Brae Elementary School (currently underway) and has successfully completed multiple FCPS projects. Hess is committed to completing Brookfield Elementary School addition and renovation on time and within budget. Construction is expected to begin around January 6, 2025, with an estimated substantial completion date of August 15, 2027.
We understand that construction can bring about some temporary changes, including temporary learning classrooms, noise, and traffic adjustments and we appreciate your patience and understanding as the project progresses. We will continue to keep you updated with important milestones and any changes that may impact the surrounding community.
A pre-construction community meeting will be held in January. The meeting date is to be determined.

Construction Information
Current Progress: ADA-accessible temporary classroom and restroom complex site work ongoing. The temporary education village complex includes security fencing. New utilities for temporary education village.

- Sustainability Improvements: The renovation will feature a more sustainable building with all LED lighting and advanced lighting controls.
- HVAC System: A new, more efficient HVAC system with updated controls will enhance comfort and energy efficiency.
- Technology Upgrades: We are incorporating updated technology to support modern learning environments.
- Life Safety Upgrades: New fire alarm system, new security system, fire sprinkler system, and new generator.
- Water Conservation: Automatic low-flow sinks, toilets, and urinals will be installed to promote water conservation.
- Daylighting: New windows and improved natural lighting in classrooms and gymnasium.
- Kitchen and Expanded cafeteria: All new kitchen equipment and expanded cafeteria.
- Relocated and Improved: SACC, Library, music, and art.
- Various site improvements:
- New pre-K playground
- New school-age playground
- New outdoor basketball courts
- Improved kiss and ride circulation
- Additional parking
