Online Registration (Kindergarten through 12th Grade)
Registration for the 2024-2025 School Year is now open.
Online Registration is open for new and returning (re-enrolling) families to apply for students entering Kindergarten (00) through 12th grade for the 2024-2025 School year.
Important: Important: Once you have established a ParentVUE account (see steps below) and are able to access the Online Registration packet, you will have the option to register students for the 2024-25 school year.

Parents must have a SIS ParentVUE Account to complete the Online Registration process (Instructions provided later in the process below).
Step 1: Determine Your Eligibility
The following two factors determine a student's eligibility to enroll in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS).
- Residency - Children must be living with a parent and residing in Fairfax County.
- Age - Children must be age 5 or older by September 30.
Step 2: Find Your Neighbourhood School
Use the FCPS Boundary Locator System to find the zoned school your student should attend.
Step 3: Gather Documents
The following documents are needed to register your student(s).
- During the application process, you will be able to upload them or indicate a hard copy will be presented during the in-person appointment (see step 5).

Note: Experiencing Homelessness? - If students are experiencing a loss of housing or are in temporary housing due to hardship, parents or legal guardians may contact the Homeless Liaison Office at 571-423-4332 or refer to Information for Homeless Families for additional contacts and resources. Step 4: Create or Login to SIS ParentVUE Account
The SIS ParentVUE Account (Student Information System ParentVUE Account) is the FCPS secure solution for accessing information about your child's attendance, class performance, demographic data, and link to Schoology. It provides an additional conduit for communication with your child's school. Customized for Elementary, Middle, and High School students, your SIS ParentVUE Account login credentials can also be used to access Schoology.
Important: Mobile devices might not display all the options for Online Registration. For best experience, it is recommended to use a laptop and Google Chrome as the main browser.

Before completing the online registration packet, you will need to determine if you can access your prior SIS ParentVUE account or if you will need to activate a new SIS ParentVUE account.
- If you had a SIS ParentVUE account and are returning within the year of leaving FCPS
- You will be able to access your account by using the username and password you had when previously in FCPS at the SIS ParentVUE login page.
If you do not remember this information, submit a Parent Support Request for assistance. Select Online Registration in the Application dropdown menu.
Attention: If you had initiated contact with FCPS for evaluations, Special Education services, or started a registration (paper) at one of our schools or centers, a SIS ParentVUE record already exists. Please do not create a SIS ParentVUE account. Use the Parent Support Request form above to obtain an activation key.
- If you had a SIS ParentVUE account and are returning after over a year of leaving FCPS, or did not have a SIS ParentVUE account while in FCPS.You will need an activation key to activate your account. Call the Parent Technology Help Desk at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS) and indicate you need an activation key to use Online Registration.
- Please be ready to provide the following information:
- Parent first and last name
- Last school student attended in FCPS
- Parent email address used in FCPS
- Last home address in FCPS
- Student’s birthdate
- You will receive follow-up information via email.

Returning to FCPS Families - More Information For Online Registration
Create a ParentVUE Account
- Open the OLR Parent Registration page.
- Answer the four questions and click Continue.
- Review the Parent Account Privacy Policy. Click I Agree to continue.
- Enter your first name, last name, email address, re-enter email address, and click Submit.
- A ‘Verify Email’ message, with a link to confirm your request, will be sent to the email address provided.
- For security reasons, the link will expire quickly. Complete the account creation process immediately.
- Navigate to your email and find the ‘Verify Email’ message from FCPS.
- Click on the link to confirm your email and create your password. This window will contain your username (make a note of it) and instructions to create your password.
- Once you confirm your password, click Submit.
- You will receive a second email message indicating your ParentVUE account is now created. This email will contain the link to the SIS ParentVUE login page.
New to FCPS Families - More Information For Online Registration
Step 5: Wait for Confirmation and In-Person Appointment
The OLR packet will be submitted to your zoned school or center for review. The registrar will contact you in the near future to schedule an in-person appointment to finalize your student’s registration.
During the appointment, the registrar will review all registration documents and answer any questions you may have.

Online Registration (OLR) FAQs
What is Online Registration (OLR)?
- Online Registration is a self-service registration portal for parents to electronically submit a registration packet to their zoned school or the registration office for review. Parents will be able to upload documents needed to register their child. School and/or registration office staff will receive and review the packet and contact the parent to schedule an in-person appointment to finalize the child’s registration.
- Parents must bring the following documentation to the in-person appointment:
- Parent Identification (Government Issued Photo ID)
- Student identification (original Birth Certificate or Affidavit with substantiating documentation)
- Other Required documents if not uploaded (e.g., Proof of residency, Health, Medical forms, last elementary report card or secondary transcripts).
- Documentation of previous educational programs and/or services (IEP, 504, etc).
Who can enroll student(s) using the Online Registration (OLR) system?
- The parent with whom the student lives in Fairfax County with. Only a parent who is named on the child's birth certificate is eligible to enroll the student. To finalize the registration the parent will be required to present government-issued photo identification.
- Virginia law and FCPS School Board policies and regulations set criteria regarding the enrollment of children by nonparents. For nonparents seeking to enroll students, please see Special Registration Situations for additional information.
When can I start using Online Registration (OLR) in FCPS?
- Online Registration opens in late January for each upcoming school year.
What kind of web browser and software are needed to complete an Online Registration (OLR) packet?
- Google Chrome is the recommended browser to complete Online Registration.
- Adobe Acrobat Reader is a recommended software to have installed on your computer for downloading PDF forms.
Can I complete an Online Registration (OLR) packet through my mobile device?
- For best experience, it is recommended to use a laptop and Google Chrome as the main browser.
My child’s last school district used Online Registration. Can that information be transferred to the Online Registration (OLR) with FCPS?
- Registrations cannot be transferred from schools outside of FCPS.
- To access Online Registration for FCPS, a parent must establish a SIS ParentVUE account. Our Online Registration page provides parents with instructions for New and Returning Families under Step 4 - Start Registration Process.
What documents will I need to complete an Online Registration (OLR) packet? Can I just email them to the school instead?

I do not have access to a computer and/or the internet. Do I have to use Online Registration to register my child?
- Online Registration is an optional tool. You may contact your zoned school to schedule a registration appointment. Use the FCPS Boundary Locator System to find the zoned school your student should attend.
Can I submit an Online Registration before I move into the FCPS district?
- Only out-of-boundary military families moving to Fairfax County will be able to submit an OLR packet . Other families may start the process and complete it once residency is established in Fairfax County. Use the FCPS Boundary Locator System to find the zoned school your student should attend.
I am returning to FCPS. Can I use Online Registration to re-enroll my child?
- If you had a SIS ParentVUE account and are returning within the year of leaving FCPS, you will be able to access your account with the prior username and password you had when previously in FCPS. If you do not remember this information, submit a Parent Support Request for assistance. Select Online Registration in the Application dropdown menu.
- If you had a SIS ParentVUE account and are returning after over a year of leaving FCPS or did not have a SIS ParentVUE account while in FCPS, you will need an activation key to activate your account. Call the Parent Technology Help Desk at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS).
Our family is new to FCPS. Should I register all my children at once or start a new OLR packet for each child?
- It is important to complete the registrations for all students prior to submitting. If a parent/guardian submits a registration for one student, that registration will need to be accepted or denied by the school registrar prior to having the ability to proceed with additional student registrations.
This is my first time enrolling my child in FCPS. Can I use Online Registration?
- Yes, you can submit an OLR packet for your zoned school or to the Student Registration Welcome Center.
What if I want my child to attend a school other than the one that they are zoned for according to OLR?
- FCPS considers transfer requests for very specific reasons for Fairfax County residents only. Students must be registered at their zoned school before starting a transfer application to request to attend another school. If the zoned school is not participating in Online Registration, then the parent can complete the registration at the school.
Is Online Registration open for rising kindergarten students?
- OLR is open for all new students. For rising kindergarten students currently enrolled in one of our FCPS preschool programs, parents should contact the registrar at the school where the student will attend kindergarten for the upcoming school year to finalize the registration. How can I access Online Registration (OLR)?
- To access Online Registration, a parent must establish a SIS ParentVUE account.

What do I do when I receive a message that the email address, I entered to create my SIS ParentVUE account is already in use?
- For technical support, create a Parent Support Request ticket for support with the application (select Online Registration in the Application dropdown menu) or call the Parent Technology Help Desk at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS).
What if some of the pre-populated information is incorrect when I logged into my previous SIS ParentVUE account to complete an OLR packet ?
- Returning families will have view-only access to some of the parent and student information FCPS has on record. If changes are needed, please make a note of the areas that need to be updated. Once your packet is submitted, the registrar will set up an in-person appointment. Let the registrar know of the changes needed and be prepared to present supporting documentation.
Can I use OLR to update information for my current FCPS children for the upcoming school year?
- At this time, OLR is only open to registering new and returning (re-enrolling) students.
Can I start an Online Registration (OLR) packet now and finish it later?
- Yes, you will be able to start the registration process and save your progress to complete at a later time.
What if I do not know anyone to list as my child(ren)’s emergency contacts?
- It is very important that school staff have contact information for at least two responsible adults who can be contacted in the event of an emergency when the parents cannot be reached. See emergency care guidelines detailed in regulation 2240.
How do I scan registration documents to upload into Online Registration (OLR) if I do not have a desktop scanner?
- If you are unable to upload documents, you may indicate that a hard copy will be provided at the in-person appointment.
Why is an in-person appointment still needed after I submit an Online Registration (OLR)?
- Schools must complete a verification process for parents’ identity and student’s age.
Once submitted, can I print a copy of my child’s Online Registration (OLR) packet or make changes to it?
- Yes, you may print a copy of the OLR packet, but no changes can be made once the packet is submitted. If changes are needed after the packet is submitted, contact the registrar for further support.
My family and I are in the Address Confidentiality Program (ACP). How can I use Online Registration (OLR)?
- You may contact your zoned school to schedule a registration appointment. Use the FCPS Boundary Locator System to find the zoned school your student should attend.
How secure is Online Registration (OLR)? Will my information be kept private and secure?
- Yes, Online Registration is secure, parents must create or activate a SIS ParentVUE account before starting the Online Registration process. Registration information is entered by using SSL (https://), which indicates the information transmitted between your device and FCPS is encrypted.
- As a parent, you can also help FCPS secure your information by using a strong password, keep it confidential, and always log out of the system at the end of each session.
We are moving and my child is currently enrolled at an FCPS school. Can I use OLR to withdraw them?
- OLR is only open for registering students. Please contact your child’s current school and follow the student withdrawal process.
