Goal 2 - Description: Safe, Supported, Included, and Empowered
Goal 2: "Every student will experience an equitable school community where student health and well-being are prioritized, and student voice is centered.
Equity Commitment: We will amplify student voice to inform our approaches, honor students' identities and experiences, and ensure student safety and well-being in an inclusive school climate and culture.
Measures:
A. Student academic inclusion and engagement
B. Positive school climate (safety, inclusion, and sense of belonging; academic support; inclusive,
academically-focused culture; and teacher-student trust)
C. Student access to the necessary emotional, behavioral, mental, and physical health services to support their
successful engagement in school
D. Student attendance and absenteeism rates

Goal 2 - Reports
- Baseline Report: The Baseline Goal 2 Report, presented to the School Board on April 25, 2024, examines data from previous years to establish a baseline of student performance. Report data identify areas of celebration and areas of need for strategic plan work in the future.
- 2024-2025 Annual Report: The annual Goal 2 Report, presented to the School Board on December 19, provides an update on the Division’s progress towards meeting the 2030 goals of the Strategic Plan.
Goal 2 - In Action
Student-Driven Menu Options
The Office of Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) has been championing student voice through offering new student-driven menu options. FNS actively seeks student feedback, throughout the school year, through a food show and focus groups to ensure student preferences are reflected in the menus.
Restorative Justice Practices in FCPS
Discover how Fairfax County public schools are implementing Restorative Justice practices to create a positive and supportive learning environment. From community-building circles at London Towne Elementary to conflict resolution at Twain Middle and Chantilly High, Restorative Justice fosters empathy, accountability, and problem-solving skills among students.
Success in School Attendance
Spring Sprouts is designed to combat chronic absenteeism. The pilot program was launched in five elementary schools, where students engaged in enriching activities during spring break. Learn more about attendance.
Support Military-Connected Families
FCPS has established a goal to become a Purple Star Division by the 2026-27 school year. Virginia school districts are awarded Purple Star Division status with 100% of their schools earning and/or maintaining their Purple Star Designation. Learn more about our current purple star schools.
Tackling Absenteeism
Addressing chronic absenteeism is a key part of our strategic plan. In the video, we discuss the collaborative efforts among schools, families, and the community to ensure every student's success. Learn more about attendance.
A Sense of Belonging
One elementary school embraced a plan to increase a sense of community. Teachers reviewed data from the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener. They looked for students who rated themselves lower in terms of feeling part of a school community.
Then, the teachers were challenged to have daily two-minute chats — about anything EXCEPT school — with the students for 10 consecutive days. Read story.
